MIRR R I956 Sharon High School Sharon, Pennsylvania In the past few years our lives have been speeded up to a point where we are not able to take time to read the newspaper, we will glance at the headlines and pictures in order to extract an overall view of the news. Thus, this new type of living is prevalent in all fields of work and play. The American peo- ple have pursued an escape for faster living, therefore, we have reverted to the ancient idea of using symbols to represent the many ideas of our daily living. As a result of this change we use mottos, trade-names, emblems, slogans, and trade-marks representing all as- pects of religious, economic, political, and so- cial fields of endeavor. In picking up the newspaper, or in reading a billboard while driving down the highway, one will be con- fronted with symbolism at every turn, be it Little Lulu or Uncle Sam, pointing at every eighteen year old boy, urging him to join the armed forces. In searching for a theme for our yearbook, we were amazed by the fact that the trend toward symbolism has taken its toll in the many facets of life at Sharon High. In our yearbook we have endeavored to incorpor- ate the many symbols of our activities into the pages of this book. Without a doubt the foremost symbol of the spirit of Sharon High is our Alma Mater, which symbolizes all phases of life at Sharon High School. w n w E N, fwfiffmfeesadk' X .M',,,,...--1 5 2 Q 5 -flip .ff A I r,- A -uv- Zfadlf cz!! dadlta Simca Sedan!! a A H V., :ly k Q L . f s .2 5 1, 1 Q i v 5 4 , QQ as If 5 i li if A 'rf ' ,.-HI 'N'-4 f Q li: rffe ff'M,N 3 TABLE OF CCNTENTS Faculty . . . 5 Athletics . . 15 Activities . . 31 Calendar . . . 60 Seniors . . . . 69 Class Ufficers . . . 70 Senior Activities . . 96 Unclerclassrnen . . . 105 Patrons . . . . 117 Zecqfaltdetazedlfoztdeewedem 77Zczq6z'5awa46z694Zfwzewz fifedtegiozchualdgdlweadwze. DR. C. M. MUSSER Superintendent of Sharon Schools Our public school is an institution of societyg it is an agent of the people operating principally at community level. Its character and quality is de- termined in large measure by the citizens of the community it serves. The resources for adapting and improving the schools to meet the needs of the people lie Within the people themselves. This great resource for improving our schools has scarcely been tapped even though much has been done in recent years. The future of our educa- tional program at all levels calls for increased interest and participation on the part of our citizens working with the professional educators in the formulation of purposes and policies and in the evaluation of results achieved. -C. M. Musser JEAN E. SEMPLE Secretary to Supertntendent ALEINE M. BILLINGS Asst. Secretary to Superzntendent If a person believes the world owes him a living, he will receive the good things of life as if they were due him. If a person believes that time upon the earth, talents, abilities, and opportunities for growth are gifts of God, he will live in a spirit of grati- tude toward God and his fellow men. It is important to remember that gratitude is essential to Christian living. -S. N. Currier ALBERT P. WILDMAN Assistant Principal of Sharon High School STANLEY N. Once again, the 96 voices of the Sharon High School concert choir under the direction of Mr. William Blough fill the auditorium and touch the hearts of the audience with their outstanding musical harmony. This select group of students can be heard throughout the year practicing the third period of every day. Long hours of hard work are spent by the choir members and their director in order to produce the beautiful harmony that is heard on Veterans' Day, at the Christmas and Spring Concerts, and at numerous other public appearances. Again this year, a row of seniors will solemnly stand before Mr. Blough to receive their choir pins. It is the goal of every sophomore member to receive one of these pins, which represent two or three years of service to the choir. C. Willard. Row 4: K. Hess, M. Alexander, B. Douthit. C. Practicing the ninth period of every day, our band proves that practice makes perfect when they provide us with diversion between half-times of all football and bas- ketball games and help to keep our spirits high all during those games. The band also extends its talent to the community by participating in various con- certs and parades. 4 Our majorettes, headed by Betty Giroski, did much to add to our school morale by their skillful baton twirling. On January 5, 6, and 7, the District Band met at Lakeview High School. Band members chosen to represent Sharon were David Maxwell, Hunter Chiles, Robert Siwiecki, Jean Hendrickson, Alan Lytle, Judy Kloss, Donna Morton, Charles Tamplin, Raymond Hum, and Darleen Madducks. 1 K . 3: My H Drum Major, J. Although we do not often see or hear from these boys behind the scenes, we know that they deserve much credit for the success of plays, concerts, and assemblies that are presented in the auditorium. Some of their duties include building and setting scenery, rearranging the stage, and oper- ating the lights. Their work proves that the man off stage is as important as the performer, even though he is seldom seen. Visual Education Row 1: R. Passerini, P. Kennedy, J. Searle, R. Lock, T. Redhair, D. Ontko.
