GETTING ALONG IN YEARS This year our high school was redecorated for the first time since its erection. In 1922 ground was broken and in 1924 the building was completed. During the last twelve years the walls of Sharon High School have looked down on a great many scenes. They have watched the enrollment grow from 730 to more than 1500. When the building was first opened for use, the seventh and eighth grades, as well as the high school grades, were situated in it, while now it is crowded with 496 Freshmen, 405 Sophomores, 377 Iuniors and 274 Seniors, a total enrollment of 1552 pupils. Our walls have observed our offered courses grow more and more numerous, until now four courses are open to studentsithe classical, the scientific, the general and the commer- cial. The last named course has been making rapid strides in the last few years. The faculty now consists of forty-two teachers, fifteen of which are men and twenty- scven, women, in addition to a principal, an assistant principal and a librarian. A few recent changes have been made in the personnel of the faculty, Miss Doris Cook being replaced by Miss Helen Thomas, bliss Dorothy Wray by Miss Alberta McCotter and Miss Rowena McBride by Mr. Harry Thompson. Miss Evelyn McClaren and Mr. Robert .Iones have been made full-time substitutes. Last November Messrs. H. McBride, G. P. Anderson, E. I. Beiber and P. E. Tamplin were elected to the School Board to replace Messrs. C. H. Pearson, former president, W. C. Leffingwell, H. K. Becht and H. M. VVillson. The new members, along with Messrs. H. Filer. S. Bycroft and George Grosscope, unanimously elected Mr. Filer to the office of president and Mr. Bycroft vice-president. The retiring members have served the com- munity for unusually long terms, Mr. Pearson having twenty-five years to his credit. Our High School building was built under the supervision of the retiring school board. They gave unsparingly of their time and effort, Mr. Lelfingwell having acted as solicitor with no remuneration. Mainly through his efforts the school was made larger than was originally planned. hfr. M. L. Williams, secretary to the School Board for the past ten years, has fulfilled his duties with admirable efficiency. His pleasant smile and his cheerful disposition have made him a part of the school. Our school has many helpers whose services are perhaps not sufficiently appreciated. Miss Grace Eckles manages the cafeteria with remarkable efficiency, our corps of caretakers, under Mr. Fisher's leadership, does much to make our school more pleasant, the office force- Misses Adele Sarver, Marian Gibbons, Reba Myers, Grace Amon and Wilnetta McCormic -keeps the wheels of the school running smoothly. Our building has been the scene of many performances besides those of our school. Ir has been opened to the community for lectures, concerts, theatrical performances and many other adairs. To all these happenings the walls of Sharon High School have been silent witnesses. Page 11
