Sharon High School Yearbook 1983 Sharon High School Yearbook 1983 AUTHOR TITLE DATE DUE BORROWER S NAME ROOM NUMBER won High School Library Sharon, Massachusetts Library Bharon, 6 fevv’ Senior Class Publication Sharon High School Sharon, Massachusetts Volume XXXXIII engol Seniors 83 I Graduation!! . . . and a final goodbye to Sharon High School. Once we’ve kissed Mom and Dad good- bye, what will we do? Some of us will cry. Some will let out a great sigh. We made it! Sftaron Hten School Library Sharon, Massachusetts Seniors 83 h - We’re really psyched to be high school graduates, to be free, to be adults! . . . Adults? Who us? The class of 1983? Most of us are still trying to figure out where our childhoods ended, if they have at all. Are we really ready to leave each other in search of our future? We can never go back. It’s scary. We could have done so many things differently. Seniors 83 Sometimes we thought we knew it all, but by thinking this we revealed our ignorance. We don’t have all the answers, but we know there will be disappointment as well as success. But the bad times make us realize how special the good times really are. a ! 1 Seniors 83 We’ll smile and remember our friends from Sharon High. We’ll wish that they could be with us now, that we could share an experience with that special friend just one more time. We will meet new people in the years to come, but will they ever be able to compare with the people with whom we shared our youth? 9 Seniors 83 Remember when . . . We were fresh- men? “What’s LHB?’’ . . . getting lost . . . carrying seniors’ trays . . . getting pushed and shoved and stepped on in the halls! . . . growing huge biceps by carrying twenty pounds of books around for seven periods a day . . . getting your first pink slip . . . waiting to be a SEN- IOR!?! The sophomore year . . . people fi- nally showing up for class meetings . . . the pep rally . . . still looking up in the halls . . . waiting for 1983! K mr m vi wi r Seniors 83 1 The junior year . . . “the most important year” . . . PSAT’s and SAT’s . . . getting a date for the prom . . . college propaganda . . . waiting for the SENIORS to leave. The SENIOR year . . . parties . . . friends . . . and more parties . . . letting frosh carry our trays . . . studying . . . getting ready to set the world on fire . . . graduation . . . AND WE’RE OUT! 13 Seniors 83 We will miss each other a lot. After all, one of the things that made the class of 1983 so special was our ability to work so well with each other. We worked to- gether to make a success of Activities Day, the Prom, Class Day, this yearbook ... so many things. • « £Sm0: «%• - — And now with graduation, it is time to turn a page in our lives. Decisions that will prob- ably affect the rest of our lives are being made. We’ve come a long way, but we’ve got even farther to go. Sharon High School has taught us well, not only academically and socially but emotionally, too. There is no question that we will encounter obsta- cles, but with perseverance, integrity, un- derstanding and love, we will be able to deal with them, to strive for all the good things that life can be, to hold fast to a dream . . . To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go. To right the unrightable wrong, To love pure and chaste from afar, To try when your arms are to weary, To reach the unreachable star! This is my quest, to follow that star, No matter how hopeless, no matter how far; To fight for the right without question or pause, To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause! And I know, if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest, That my heart will lie peaceful and still, When I’m laid to my rest, And the world will be better for this; That one man, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove with his last ounce of courage, To reach the unreachable stars. ••From the Musical Play, “MAN OF LA MANCHA” THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM Words by Joe Darion — Music by Mitch Leigh 19 Seniors Senior Class Officers and Planning Board Senior Planning Board: Karl Suchecki, Greg Bodkins, John Moore, Eric Garber, Amy Gersh, Pam Miller, Sarah Katz, Michael Finer, Sharon O’Brien, Karen Goodman, Kathy Outlaw, Andy Braunstein, Joe Videll, Elyse Spiegal, Greg Greenidge, Robin Katz, Leanne Frank, Jeff Davis, Allen Smith, Vince Quirk, Patty Holton, Dawn Clements, Alan Walters, Andy Newman, Jeff Leerink, Jeff Lezberg, Lenny Snyderman, Mark Goldstein, Paul Stopous 22 Regina Anne Abreau Canada Cntry GT WG FR EN BE MS CTS — Smr 79 YOUAH! He was instrumental in raising funds for athletic scholarships which are presented to S.H.S. seniors every year. In addition, the money for which he and the Boosters Club so dilligently worked helped defer the cost of several sports which otherwise would have been eliminated due to monetary restraints. We, the Class of 1983, respectfully dedicate this yearbook to you, Mr. Robert Laurie. 48 appreciation The Senior class would like to extend their appreciation to Mr. Frank Bryant, yearbook advisor, and Mr. John Ger- maine, yearbook assistant, in recognition of the time and support they have given us in producing the 1983 Marsen- gold. In addition to their responsibilities as teachers, they were extremely supportive in helping us develop the year- book into a format that truly represents Sharon High School in 1983. This was accomplished without sacrafic- ing the traditions that have been one of the continuing strengths of S.H.S. Mr. Bryant and Mr. Germaine, thank you for sharing your knowledge and understanding in helping us to make the 1983 Marsengold, what we feel is, the best Sharon year- book ever. 49 I Senior Remembrances Eye Opener Toma Class Daze Prom Parties Face Rake! With an impressive 17-0 record, the Eagles entered the first round of the state championships. In their first competition Sharon defeated Randolph 5-0, taking all five matches. Unfortunately, the tennis team suffered a dissappointing loss to Scituate in the quarter finals, eliminating them from the championships. With the return of several of last year’s underclass- men this year’s team should be quite competitive. The outstanding coaching of Mr. Cronin brought the Girls Tennis team through a season of hard work and strong improvement. All the girls put up a strong fight against tough competition. The aggressive efforts of last years senior captain Pam Berman will especially be missed. The team looks forward to a season of high spirit under the leadership of Kathy Outlaw and seniors — Winnie Shulsk and Elyse Spiegal. The spirit and team- work exhibited by all the players made the season unforgettable. After a good start, winning the first two matches 4 V 2 -I V 2 , and 6-0, we slumped slightly, going 0-3 in the next three matches. This took a lot of heart out of us, as we won only 3 out of the remaining 13 matches. The loss of junior standout Chris Romaine due to a knee injury did not help in the last six matches. The highlights of the year came in our two matches against Oliver Ames, the league champs. O.A. had a chance to post a flawless 16-0 record, but thanks to an all-out team effort, Sharon tied them twice. This was the best Golf team that Sharon has had in years, and we would like to thank Coach Joe Cook ton his dedication to us. After last season’s 1-7 record, the boys spring track team did not have high hopes for a bright season. And it was quite a surprise when a good number of athletes turned out. Coaches Ed Norris and Tom Becker could see some promise. League champion Vincent Quirk was undefeated in the league in the half-mile. Tai Tran was top scorer on the team. Jeff Lezberg, Steve Fla- herty, Daniel Dubin, Richard Mazzaferro and Quink Bax- ter all contributed to a 6-2 season for Sharon. 107 Junior Varsity: sitting left to right — Jeff Cohen, Paul Steinburg, Paul Shaffer, Larry Bornstein, David Pearlstein, Brian Finkelman, Larry Frank, Jason Binns, David Feldman standing left to right — Coach LaChapelle, Whitey Lyman, Dan Goodman, Jim Marshall, J.J. The Eagles, through the hard work and valuable contributions of all the players, rolled up a string of six consecu- tive wins. With late inning rallies such as the come-from-behind last inning win over North At- tleboro, the Sharon team displayed an exciting brand of baseball. Because the majority of the ’82 team were underclassmen, the ’83 team is expected to be a very good contender for the league title in the Spring. 108 - 109 arsity Baseball: bottom row left to righ t, Peter Badoian, Buzz mpey, Steve Coffey, Bob Laurie, David Gronendyke, Kevin ontes, Jason Davenport, Jeff Cosgrove, Bob Fleming standing ift to right, Asst. From the day camp started, in late August, to the very last practice in November, the team made constant improvements. The Eagles had many im- pressive victories and its losses were in tough games against the top teams in the league. The ' 82 Eagles boasted one of the largest senior teams in past years; 14 men in all. The team showed great unity and terrific teamwork. This team had a good year that its members will remember for a long time. Lacking a true big man, the tallest player being only 6’2”, the Eagles were expected to be overpowered by their opponents. Instead, with its use of both speed and quickness, the Eagles team outplayed their opponents. They held many of them to below forty points. This year’s group of senior members, who are used to winning, provided the necessary leadership to make the team successful. With a record of winning, the seniors on the team provided the necessary drive and leadership to make the season a successful one. Girls Basketball After losing four starting players from last year’s Girls Varsity Basketball team, Sharon was unsure as to what type of season lay ahead. With hard work, determina- tion, and excellent coaching from Mr. Allman, they were pleased with their successful record. Captains Lynne Grafton and Maureen Laurie contributed to their victo- ries by being high scorer and high rebounder respec- tively.
