EDUCATION, AN INVESTMENT IN PEUPEE To the Senior Class The education which the citizens of Sharon have provided for you represents their investment in you. From their investments in stocks and bonds, or banks, or business, or real estate they have a right to expect a fair return. Have they not the right to expect a fair return from their investment in your education ? If you so order and conduct your lives that you bring credit and honor to yourselves and to Sharon High School, you will have vindicated the faith which the people of Sharon have placed in you. They will have made a sound investment. 5172 yffffaf.-.mf V- llcus JIL 4 -1 ' . .Bri-Nh'-J ' . ' .. W .' y f .IT ...J we Q. uzs::'E8 v 5 . l O04 gtk i NX PRINCIPAVS MESSAGE In September 1949 your class became Freshmen in the high school. At that time your group numbered forty-seven. It is not at all unusual to have changes in group membership during the four-year period. In the case of your class these changes have reduced the membership to thirty-seven. During these four years you have been faithful to your studies and other school activities as you have attended the classes of your choice each year. You are about to complete your formal high school education and very shortly will become citizens of this or some other community. This will give you an opportunity to put the results of your training into practice. ' Your teachers have taken a personal interest in your educational accomplishrnentsg and, because you are a small class, they have been able to give you more individual attention than future classes will enjoy as the school enrolment increases. As you go your respective ways after graduation, it is my sincere wish that you will be success- ful in whatever line of endeavor you may choose, whether it is to continue your educa- tion or take your place in industry. JUNIUR CLASS As we go to press, the Juniors have their busiest time still ahead of them with preparations for the outstanding social event of the year, the Junior Prom. For the first time in the history of Sharon High School, it was possible, because of the size of the class, to elect three, instead of two, Juniors to the National Honor Society-one of the signs that our school is growing. Also, the Juniors have enjoyed the distinction, this year, of having four starters on the varsity basketball team. We are sure that they will go on to further distinctions in their senior year. ,J vs'ss W .':'? :' 5 5 1 Dsl 6149 -'Cs' 3 '19.t5s Q Cf-.- .::,. SOPHOMORE CIASS The Sophomores presented their dance, The Emerald City, on November 14. The theme, adapted from the Wizard of Cz, was very novel and well carried out. The artistic talent of the Sophomores was also evident in their entries in the annual Christmas Art Contest, for they won first prize in both the religious and non-religious classes. This ability should assure them an original Junior Prom and senior yearbook. 72 ff' vw .- . ll WT? BUYS' VARSITY BASKETBAH The basketball team, under the direction of Mr. William Konsavage and Captain Alan Dunakin, has maintained a top spot in the Hockomock League since the season began and, at present, are tied for first place with North Attleboro and Canton, We wish them luck in winning the Hocko- mock League Trophy. The boys have made an excellent showing at the Brockton Tournament this year and have a good chance of winning the forthcoming final playoffs. The good sportsmanship and fair play that the team has displayed have won them a large group of enthusiastic followers. VARSITY BASKETBAH Due to unforeseen happenings, this year's girls' varsity basketball team was not so successful as it has been in the past. Nevertheless, spurred on by Mrs. Anita Keyes, coach, and Regis King, Captain, the girls displayed school spirit, and good sportsmanship at every game. MUSIC GRUUPS The music department of Sharon High School has grown greatly, both in size and quality, in the past few years. The newly formed band, under the direction of Mr. Hoffman, has played at several school assemblies including those at Thanksgiving and Christmas. A small group from the band delighted spectators and encouraged school spirit by playing at all the home basketball games. The Boys' Chorus was formed this year under the direction of Mrs. Merritt. This chorus, which has already sung at several engagements, has concentrated mostly on the building of a repertoire specializing in college songs. The A Cappella Concert Choir is carrying on the good work that they started last year with the aid of Mrs. Merritt. Because the girls have worked hard andiat present have a repertoire which is two hours long, they have had many outside engagements. The president of the group is Joanne Hamer, and the announcers are Gretchen Myers, Lee Carney, Cynthia Hall, and Regis King. When the girls attended the Southeastern Music Festival last year, they received a very high rating. We are certain that they will win another high rating when they enter this Music Festival again this spring. l All three musical groups have contributed much to the school by providing entertainment and by encouraging school spirit. We sincerely hope that they will continue their grand work. ll CFS P BAND Third Row, left to right: Neil Holzman, Joseph Klein, Richard Rau, Duncan Oliver, John Ditzler, Donald Dunakin, Harriet Lillard, John Howe. HONUR SUCIETY Membership in the National Honor Society is based on four principles: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. It is the aim of the organization to foster these principles in the school and to encourage the students to strive for membership This year the induction ceremony was conducted by Mar- garet Morgan and Joan Abel, members from the previous year, and Mr. Clark, sponsor. STUDENT COUNCH This year, as in the past, the Student Council, under the able direction of Miss Burns, has completed many successful and beneficial projects. At Christ- mas, it supervised the collection of clothing for the Save The Children Federation . In addition to this worthwhile project, it presented an assembly on par- liamentary procedure, conducted the election of the Good Government Day representative, and helped to establish a safety patrol for the school. Plans are being formed for a formal induction of members into the Student Council next year. I Sharon High School is indeed proud of the work done by its Student Council.
