Curling up under the eaves, we pored over the precise handwriting of the girl of a hundred years ago. What a life! we groaned. So different from ours. And yet not so different! For in- stance: FEBRUARY 1, 1849-Dear Diary: Early this morning our caravan left Boston on the. first part of our long journey west- ward. OCTOBER 10, 1945-Our freshman year began and we, unique as usual, elected a girl as president of our class. l FEBRUARY 10, 1849-Dear Diary: After camp was made tonight, the whole caravan attended the first social. MARCH 22, 1946-We became the first freshman class in the history of Sharon High School to sponsor a public dance in the evening. It was very appropriately called the Freshman First and turned out to be a huge success. FEBRUARY 20, 1849-Dear Diary: All the live stock was herded into a corral today and branded. APRIL 6, 1946-A large part of the class trooped down to the auditorium and re- ceived the T. B. test. FEBRUARY 28, 1849-Dear Diary: The Ohio country is rugged and dangerous. and many ditiicult obstacles have to be overcome and disappointments endured. SEPTEMBER 4, 1946-We started our sophomore year with high spirits and big expectations. The work became more difficult, and we took on new responsi- bilities, but we also acquired new social interests. Basketball kept everyone at high pitch, but our dreams were brutally smashed when we lost the South Shore Championship in an overtime game. We were partially consoled, however, when we received a bid to play in the Tech Tournament in Boston Garden, some- thing completely new in Sharon High. MARCH 2, 1849-Dear Diary: A travel- ing medicine man astounded the whole caravan with a revolutionary new elixir that would cure everything from corns to cholera morbus. 20 A
