Senior Class Year Book 1938 13 FIELD HOCKEY Although Field Hockey is a comparatively new sport at Sharon High, the con- scientious work of the girls began to come into evidence this year. The excellent defense of the half back and full back lines, as well as our efficient goalie, was one of the noteworthy features of the team. In spite of the fact that the second team is very young, it is very promising and because of them some good games are in store for the future. Another year, with these same girls playing, will show what a grand game field hockey is. Virginia Scott is the very able captain-elect, a position held during the past season by Ruth McMahon. 12 Senior Class Year Book 1938 TENNIS For the first time Sharon High School has had tennis teams in interscholastic competition for both boys and girls. Each team will have played four matches: the boys against Canton and Wrentham high schools; the girls against Walpole and Wrentham high schools. The girls were particularly fortunate to have 12 year old Norma Meister, who will undoubtedly be a national star, available for the team. She lost one game in four sets of singles. The girls won two matches from Walpole, 3-2, 3-2, and tied Wren- tham and won from Wrentham, 3-2. The boys dropped two to Canton High School, 4-2, 4-2. The chief obstacle was Bill Hibbard who is No. 2 Junior player of Vermont. Unfortunately when the above picture was taken Norma Meister and Cynthia Deny were not present.

1 ' 4 Senior Class Year Book 1938 BASKETBALL The boys’ basketball team was very successful this last season. For the first time they defeated Stoughton in Stoughton’s Gym. They finished third in the Hock-a-mock League winning 12 games and losing only 4. The members of the first team were Hall, Flamand, Coffey Forwards Eldracker Center H ixon, Morgan Guards Dutton, Boyce, McNair Substitutes The second team : Vadala, Spaulding, Friedman Forwards Lyttle Center Clark, D. Kitterman, M. Rocket Guards The second team won 8 and lost 5 games. The manager was R. Burlingame with William Dingman and John Bradford as assistants.
