Za- 7 The members of the journalism club had many opporttmities to keep their creative thinking and writing busy this year. The club had one handicap, however, there was a shortage of members. Therefore, the fourteen loyal and hardworking members gave much of their time and themselves in order to have school articles in the Shannon Reporter every week. They also put out an Ea-Cry every six weeks. As a dividend for their efforts, they attended a Press Conference at DeKalb, Illinois. Beatrice Swalve and Lenore Van Matre are to be commended for the fine work they did as co-editors. Advisor ..... . Mr. Smith Co-Editors . . . . an Fm The 58-59 school year was an eventful one in the FFA. The officers were Ralph Bass--Pres., Larry Lessman-- Vice Pres., Gene Heeren--Sec., Merek Bastian--Treas., Lynn Johnson--Reporter, Bill Artman--Sentinel. The events were as follows: Larry Slick won the State Farmer Degree at the annual State FFA Convention held in Springfieldg The State Judging Contest was held at the University of Illinois and the poultry judging team was composed of Wayne Byers, Dan Foust, and Paul Krum and the Dairy team was composed of Ralph Bass, Larry DeWal1 and Dick Gantz and the fat stock team was made up of Larry Slick and Stan Wormsbeckerg Fifteen boys showed 67 entries at Morrison and won 3244.095 Gerald Slick won the beef steer calf prize in the Bankers' Calf Scrambleg Ralph Bass won a purebred Poland China gilt in the greased pig contest at the Milledgeville Fairg The FFA sponsored an all-school wiener roast and hayrideg The Senior students placed third in the Soil Judging Contest at Erieg Ralph Bass won the Pioneer corn growing contest with 185 bushels per acreg Agr. I and II took a field trip to the International in Chicagog and the FFA and FHA co-sponsored the delightful Sweetheart Dance in February, with Ralph Bass and Mary K.
