Junior Varsity Softball Shannon's second team played only two games this year and they were with Forreston. The team won both games. Don Colbert was the winning pitcher in both sessions. The team consisted mostly of freshmen and sophomores with some juniors and seniors, The main objective in having a second string baseball team is to encourage students to try their hand at the sport and to enable the coach to choose replacements for the varsity squad for the ensuing year. ll Junior Varsity Basketball Although they got off to a slow start this season, Shannon won four and lost sixteen games. They were paced to victory by Don Colbert and Richard Fran- sen. Marvin Van Horn also contributed excellent rebounding and good defense, although he did not score much. Norman Byers and Gerald Elseman were the scoring guards who played some good floor games. Elseman and Fransen have both shown great promise for next year's varsity squad. 46

Basketball The Shannon Eagles had a fair season this year winning eight and losing fourteen games. They ended up in a threeway tie for third place in the confer- ence with Thomson and Chadwich each winning and losing five. The seniors who graduate this year are George Kriske, Tom Stevens, James Hartman, and Wilmer Jacobs. Shannon's prospects for next year's team look good with Richard Fransen and Gerald Elseman coming up from the second team and seven juniors coming back. The Pep Club did a grand job of supporting The members of the Lettermen's Club are boys who have earned either major or minor let- ters. This year the club has sixteen members. The oflicers are: President-Keith Sturtevant Vice-President--LaMoine Moll Secretary-Thomas Stevens Treasurer-Gerald Lessman Adviser-Mr. Yackle Four cheerleaders, Jane Woessner, Carol Woessner, Jean Cole and Marita Budde, gave Shannon plenty of zip and yell at the games this year. The two seniors, Carol and Jean, will be missed, but they did a fine job of training the two under-graduates. e Eagles this year. The school spirit has greatly creased because of the fine team our coach has ined. The club sponsored a bake sale in order give a party for the basketball teams.
