Shanley's Deacons in a moment of tense action in their game against the Walsli County Aggies, the first night in the Deacons' new gym, as they watch Pat Golliton's ball come through to pace them to victory. BASKETBALL The Shanley High Hoopsters playing for the first year in their new gym enjoyed a very successful season. They compiled a 14f9 season record including 1Of6 in Class A. Trimming Fargo High in both meetings of the two clubs, and victories over Wahpeton, Minot, and Valley City the Shanley team provided plenty of excitement for its root' ers. At one time during the season the Deacons boasted seven straight wins. Poor shooting cost the Deacons a berth in the State U91 Tournament when they dropped two out of three in the Eastern Divisional tourney. After beating the Grafton Spoilers in the opener 4341, Shanley suffered successive losses to Grand Forks 5646 and Devils Lake 62f46. Guard George Kelly and forward Rudy Maras were named on the allfcity team and given honorable mention for allfstate. Rudy in addition was chosen for the Eastern tourney's honor team. Coach Gichy's outlook is very bright for the 51352 sea' son. Returning lettermen are juniors Roger Maras and Dick Savageaug sophomores Dick Wehage and Tom Gretter.
