THE HISTUIQY DI: Tlrllf CLASS Cf 1944 Year 1940 OCCHSIOD Flrst day of school ID September A group of lntelllgent looklng students stepped out to take thexr place among the upper classmen of Stonycreek Tow nshxp Hlgh School Our goal seemed far ln the dlstance but those four long years sped past untll finally there was only a few weeks left before the great nlght when we were rewarded with our dlplomas This was the final proof that we had succeeded ID thls xery lmportant phase ln our llfe We certalnly felt lmportant ln 1941 We were Freshmen and proud of lf We xgnored the Jests of those who fancled themselves our superiors and took our 1n1t1at1on llke good sportsmen There were forty members 1n our class and wlth the help of our advlsor Mr Cronk we elected class ofhcers and dld ex erythmg requxred of a nlnth grade class The next year we returned to school prepared to do our best ln the role of Sophomores We were gradually worklng our way to the top when we would be SCHIOTS lt was durlng this year that our class presented IIS first play Under the dlrectlon of Mrs Glessner our advlsor we were successful IH puttlng over a very approprlate performance The Land of the Free brought some of our capable actors and actresses to the front and we were eagerly looklng forward to the tlme when we would be puttlng on our jumor and Senlor class plays Whlle we were Sophomores our class was represented ln the band choruses and different organl zatlons ln the school Despite the keen competltlon from the two larger classes ahead of us we dldn t take a back seat Then It was 1942 and we were JUTIIOTS We had only one more step to take We could see our antxclpated goal on the horizon That was a busy year for the twenty nlne members ln our class SIX of our classmates deserted us and that left only twenty three to carry on We had no trlp to look for ward to but the problem of ralsmg money was stlll a b1g1ssue We sold magazmes but our most successful enterprise was the class play Chlna Boy The audltorlum was packed wlth an enthuslastxc audlence and flnanclally our class was out of the red Durlng the first week of December we recelved our class rlngs They were made over the same standard deslgn which was chosen by the Class of 1941 Wlth the help of Mr Lohr a very eventful year had been added to our hlstory We selected the yellow tea rose for our class flower rose and gold for class colors and Not for School but for Llfe for our motto When Mr Lohr left the employ of our school lf was a blow to our class but Mr Walker took hls place and hxs help was deeply appreclated We had but one member on the Varslty Basketball Team Ted Lowry who played Center on the flrst team helped wln our first champlonshlp ln the B League Durlng the last weeks of our Junlor year we served as hosts at the Jumor Senxor Banquet held at the Whxte Star Hotel ln Jennerstown took part ln the May Day festlvltles and sponsored a plcnxc on the last day of school At last the long awalted year had come We were Senlors and just as dlgnlfied as any of the classes before us had been Dorothy Hlllegas was chosen as class presldent LaVerne 1-lendershot VICC pres1 dent Enxd Musser secretary and Bxll Woodward treasurer We were guided by our capable advlsor Mr Emerlck Thls year has been filled wlth many actlvltles On December 3 we presented our thlrd successful dramatlc production Me and My Shadow Ted Lowry and Don Peck represented our class on the Basketball squad Ted was captaln of the V1klUgS and played center Don was one of the best guards that ever played at Stonycreek As cheer leaders Dorothy Hxllegas and Enld Musser dld thelr part ln cheerlng, our boys to vxctory LaVerne Hendershot again serx ed capably as timer operatmg the blg electrlc basketball clock and scoreboard Calls to mllltary SCTXICC made deep lnroads 1nto our class roll Charles Beal entered the serxlce ln the summer of 1943 Fred Plle and Bob Cvrenke w ere called durlng the first semester of thxs year and Don Peck w as lnducted but permltted to complete h1s final semester of school All too short has been our Hlgh School years but we are ready to enter 1 new phase of llfe not to be serx ed but to serxe 17 . . .
