Gun .Sz-:nion Qcm Seniors! At last the long-awaited year has arrived. Since we entered high school four years ago, we felt that there could be no greater honor than to be the leaders of the school and to be the chief participants in the many activities offered to us. Our first cardinal step was to elect Ruth Landis president, Grant Walker, vice- president, Elizabeth Hickey, secretary, and Kathleen Daugherty, treasurer. The officers have had an important part in guiding the destinies of the class, they have performed this task faithfully. Genevieve Bauermaster has acted as class advisor in helping these officers carry on their respective duties. Miss Bauermaster has efficiently led our class during the four years we have been in high school-directing our class plays and super- vising our activities. At the beginning of the term we started to sell ice cream and candy as one of the means of financing our Senior trip, and continued this project throughout the entire term. In addition to selling these refreshments at noon, extra profit was derived from their sale during basketball games and evening community activities in the school. Our next problem was choosing a competent staff to publish the 1940 Chicahonian. A faculty committee chose the staff members who were later approved by the entire class. With the coming of October busy days began for the yearbook staff-group and individual photographs were taken, trips were made into surrounding towns to solicit advertising, and write-ups and copy material were assembled. We did not neglect our social activities, for we sponsored the annual Halloween Party. This social function marked a milestone in the history of Stonycreek in that the first school dance was held. In November we presented our class play, A Crazy Mix- Upj' a riotous farce which entertained both young and old. The following comprised the cast: Ruth Landis, Carolyn Glessner, Phyllis Baldwin, William Glessner, Grant Walker, Elwood Yoder, Robert Barkman, Grace Stutzman, Pauline Schrock, and Shirley Ross. During February the Seniors became magazine salesmen-with one easy lesson from a Curtis magazine representative-a selling project. Our Senior diary next reveals our gala operetta, The Sunbonnet Girl. The Senior Class furnished most of the leads, we are proud to say. The catering and ticket-selling for the annual basketball banquet in April was another responsibility of the Seniors. ' We are now looking forward with avid hearts to the annual junior-Senior Banquet, our Baccalaureate service, Class Night, and Commencement. The trip to Washington, D. C., which will follow the Commencement exercises, will be a fitting conclusion to four happy, busy, and worthwhile years. lO
