IRCRAFT TERMEDIATE I TE CE DEP RTME AIMD, established on Shangri-La August 11, 1967, is composed of three divisions and 19 work centers. AIMD has an allow- ance for 103 enlisted men, four officers, and during the deployment operated with 62 en- listed men TAD from embarked squadrons. AIMD's primary function is to provide in- termediate-level maintenance and services for aircraft and support equipment. During the cruise the department processed over 13,500 aeronautical components! In addition to maintaining its numerous com- plex systems, AIMD is responsible for Shangri-La's Air Force, consisting of one CIA plane. The department supplies the five-man CIA crew. CDR George W.
