The department's primary du- ties involve precise, intricate work that is es- sential to aircraft recoveries at night, aerial photography, intelligence, weather forecasting and maintenance of the ship's sophisticated electronic equipment. Composed of five divisions and the Naval Security Group, the responsibilities of Op- erations Department are both far-reaching and crucial in making Shangri-La an effective instrument of national policy in Southeast Asia. The department possesses the collective qualities of confidence in its- ability and singleness of purpose to complete its work in the highest traditions of the Navy.
