3 X mx any X-c ff X H1111 Commander R. H. Lovelace Commander Robert H. Love- lace was born in Tocca, Georgia, on November 21, 1928. In 1948, he entered the Naval service through the Holloway Program as a mid- Shipman. He won his wings in Pensacola, Florida, in January of 1950, and was commissioned an Ensign on June 1, 1950. CDR Lovelace was first as-A signed duty with Fighter Squadron Sixty One based at Oceana, Vir- gunna. ln 1953, he was transferred to Fighter Squadron Seven Forty One at NAS Jacksonville, while a stu- dent at the University of Florida. He returned to Pensacola in 1956 as a Flight and Ground Instructor in the Basic Training Command. ln 1958, he was transferred to Commander Fleet Activities, Ry- ukyu, where he assumed duties as Staff Administrative Officer. Returning to the United States in 1961, CDR Lovelace completed two short tours under instruction as a Replacement Pilot in Attack Squadron Forty Four and Heavy Attack Squadron Three. His next assignment took him to NAS Sanford, Florida, where he was assigned duties as Ad- ministrative Officer of Heavy At- tack Squadron Five, and later became Operations Officer of the same unit. During this tour the RASC was placed in fleet service and Heavy Attack Squadron Five was redesignated Reconnaissance Attack Squadron Five. The first fleet deployment of this squadron and the RASC was made to South- east Asia aboard the USS Ranger. Following a tour at the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, he returned to NAS Sanford as Ex- ecutive Officer and later Com- COMCVW-8 manding Officer of Reconnaissance Attack Squadron Seven in July, 1964. During this period he made two tours aboard the USS Enter- prise to Southeast Asia. Upon his return, he became Chief Staff Officer of Reconnaissance Attack Air Wing One in February, 1967. Commander Lovelace has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with one gold star, Air Medal with four gold stars, Bronze Star with Combat V and Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V . The commander attended the Citidel and graduated from the University of Florida. He is married to the former Chris Brock of Pensacola, and they reside with their one son, Robert, in Orange Park, Florida.
