VOSBURGH, PH.B, - -- a Prlmljml Once again Mr. Vosburgh has ably piloted the high school through another scholastic term. In the capacity as student adviser and school principal he fills both responsible positions with integrity and efficiency. But we speak IlOt only of this, our senior term, but of our entire high school life. Our years have been vigilantly guided by him, and Mr. Vosburgh has long since won our admiration and emulation. We are confident his influence will be L1 life-long benefit. For his whole- hearted co-operation and guidance we are sincerely grateful. - Page Eleven I'I II H FFICULTY III II I lv I I I,IIII,II'. W Page Thirteen 26 CHESS HUSTCQUBY OUR years ago the present senior class pulled open the heavy doors of Shamokin High School and entered the corridors to a new, very new school life. In these past four years we have found it to be a wonderful life. W'e studied, but with our studying we had many good times. Our freshman year was quite exciting. We were green, terrifically green freshies who couldn,t make one move without having the upper- classmen-including sophomores-find fault. Freshies, use the eleva- tor! In assembly- Folks on the shelf, please remain standing! In corridors- Not so much noise in the hallli' were among the many orders shouted to us that year. Sophomores, and it was our turn to give orders. This year our class was organized. Election of officers took place and we selected Mr. Evans as our class sponsor. XVe immediately started to Hll our empty treasury. Being sophomores, we were allowed one major activity. We decided that it should be a dance, but it must be different. So it was. The spot- light dance was a huge success, even the seniors had to admit it. At last we were juniors. Christmas cards and football pennants were sold and our treasury began to swell. A costume dance at Hallowe'en proved to be most successful. During the holiday season we gave a nov- elty snow ball dance. In February Growing Pains was given by our classmates. Later came the opera, The Pied Piper of Hamelinf' and The Green Ghost. W'e ended this delightful year with the Junior Prom. It was held in the American Legion Ballroom. These four years have passed very quickly. Now we are at the end of our senior year. During this year we gave several dances, all of which were a huge success both socially as well as financially. Throughout this last year The Yankee King, Tulip Time, and Going on Seventeeny' were presented. This year, as is the custom, the juniors entertained us at a jolly, sociable prom. May has come and gone. Our Dinner Dance, Class Night, Baccalaure- ate Service, and Commencement are now past memories. They are four years that we can never replace, but which shall always remain vivid in our minds and bring to us many an hour of pleasant recollection. We have past on from those beloved corridors and shut those heavy doors as we left. We, the class of 1958, are now Alumni. l.igt Sixiten :ny i kj Cum rm'rz'iill af HANNAH ADAMS Cuumn'n'iul Glec Club 2, 35 A Capella 35 Pied Piper of Haniclinf' Zlcgffvnffgfi- , fl MGQL fm? Inu, .umm Mof fatt H15 1937 football squad enjoyed a very successful season compiling a record rivaling those of 1917 and 1936. The only mars on the cam- paign were a defeat by Lewistown and the forfeiture of six games through the use of an ineligible player. These forfeits cost our team the con- ference lead and a chance to gain the mythical state high school cham- pionship. The first game on September 18 saw the inexperienced Greyhounds in action against a strong Lewistown team. In spite of the valiant efforts of the team members, they were defeated 7-6. The next three games Shamokin won by shutouts defeating William Penn 20-0, Berwick 34-0, and York 28-0. All three teams showed little opposition and fell easy prey to the Shamokin boys. On October 16, the squad met a veritable powerhouse from Scran- ton Tech. After constant shifting of advantage, Shamokin was trail- ing in the closing minutes of the game by 14-13. Receiving the ball deep in their own territory, Shamokin unleashed a furious attack of reverses, laterals, and other deceptive plays which led to a last-minute score and another victory by a score of 19-14. Mahanoy City was battled in mud on the following Saturday. In spite of the wet ball the game was Won 12-6 on forward passes. Ashland was taken 19-7, and Mount Carmel Township was smothered by an ava- lanche of touchdowns 27-0. November 13 saw Sunbury go down to defeat 13-6. A muddy field slowed down the Greyhounds' fast-breaking attack and kept the score from being higher. After a week's layoff our traditional rival was Mount Carmel, conquered for the fourth consecutive time.
