H. S. THE SOCIAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT It has been said that civilization is the efficient way of doing things. By studying social sciences We become more efficient, and therefore more progressive. Perhaps the best known maxim that can be applied to the Social Science Department is that We must profit by another's example. This Department offers social, economic, and political history of both past and present. By the study of civics, history, and problems of democracy, we are able to see deficiencies and perfections of different methods of government. Only by knowing these can we hope to better our government in the future. MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT The value of the study of mathematics cannot be overestimated. Every hour in the day some form is used by the individual, especially arithmetic. The income of the family must be balanced. In- surance, and banking must be handled in a business- like manner. Airplanes and automobiles, bridges and skyscrapers must be constructed to fulfill the demand of modern civilization. All of these things demand mathematical computation.
