Shaler opened the 1957 football season by de- feating Hampton 32-13, Leading 12 to 0 at the half. the team continued to show their superior strength by scoring 3 additional touchdowns against a smaller and lighter Hampton team. Our Husky football team was victorious for the second time when they downed Xfest Yiew 27-18. Shaler held the Indians after the kickoff and moved the ball right down the field and over the goal line with our Scobho doing the honors. Shaler continued to hold their opponents by scor- ing two more touchdowns, one hy Scobbo and the other by Malone, XYest View scored once in the first half as the score stood 20-6. XYe con- tinued to dominate the game with Scobbo scor- ing his third touchdown, XVest Yiew became alive and scored twice. but it was in vain as the lluskies captured their second victory. The Shaler lluskies suffered their first loss of the season when the North Catholic Trojans defeated them. Shaler scored its first touchdown in the second quarter when Rummel carried for the touchdown. This made the score 6-6 at the half. The teams were battling back and forth without scoring in the third quarter. North scored in the fourth quarter leaving the final score 19-6. liy defeating a weak Swissvale team 34-O, Shaler won its third game, and thc first league 'IB The Huskies john Rummel, carrying the ball, is tackled by a North Catholic opponent. john Costello pursues a North Catholic player in one of Shaler's most exciting games of the year. contest of the year. Rulnmel scored one touch- down. with Grey and Ruff tallying two each. ,Xlthough Swissvale's team had been hit hard by the .Xsian flu. they still managed to put up an admirable fight. Shaler won its fifth game of the season by defeating Ramsey 39-13. During the second quarter, a pass from Malone completed to Smith set up the first score. After a colorful halftime, marking Shaler's homecoming celebration, the Huskies' Isett scored his third touchdown of the evening. The final score of the game was a run by Husky substitute Nedd. Shaler's first tie of the season ended 7-7, with Penn High School. Although the Huskies didn't score in the first quarter they still battled on. ln the second quarter lsett scored for the Huskies with l.ewis converting. The second half proved to be a defensive battle on the part of both teams. Carnegie. although previously beaten, knocked Shalcr out of the running for the VVPIAL Class .X title by holding the Huskies to a 13-13 tie. Grey took a five-yard pass from Malone to score the first touchdown. and Scobbo scrambled six yards for another TD to climax a 66-yard drive. Lewis kicked for the extra point on the first counter. During the second half, Carnegie came from behind to gain the tie, and it was an odd recovery of the fumble in the end zone that gave

Vlhen Hatcher tried to run for an extra point after a TD in the fourth period. he fumhled the hall, and :mother Carnegie player recovered it in the end zone to tie the game. Shale1 s Huskies smothered a Visiting Bethel team -l0-26. Scolmho nailed down two touch- downs for the winning Huskies, Others collect- ing a TD each were Costello. Isett, Veralde. and Grey. Lewis scored four extra points hy place- ment kicks. Shaler subs saw plenty of action in the second half of the game. Shaler concluded its 1957 grid season hy de- feating North Allegheny 39-19. lsett raced 42 yards around left end to score the first touch- down. North Allegheny came hack with a suc- cessful scoring drive to tie the game. However. Shaler quickly regained the lead when Malone passed to Fred Smith who dashed 47 yards for a touchdown. Then Grey passed 30 yards to F. Smith in the end zone for a third Shaler TD. ln the second quarter, Yeraldi and Rumniel made touchdowns to make the halftime score 33-6, During the third quarter, Scolmlno sprinted 7-l- yards for Shaler's final tally, while North Alle- gheny scored twice more. VYelJer, Peluso, VVagner, Ruff, Rummelg Ron' 3: New- house, Geisler, Managers. Costello, Noulette, john, Bigelow, Madsen, Zappa, Booher, Sands, Galbraith, coach, Dixon, assistant coach. Coach Galbraith advises Bill Sands on a play, while Mr. Dixon anxiously watches the game.
