H chanical and electrical appliances found in the home. Mr. Campbell, in Home Mechanics Club. teaches the senior high girls how to repair a broken stove, refrigerator or wall clock. These homemakers will soon be the handyman of their future homes. A requirement of the -lunior High girls is the subject of home economics. General in- structions in homemaking are being given to the girls in grades 7-9 by Hrs. Kradel. The young ladies are taught precision marketing. and correct ways to plan. prepare. and serve appetizing meals. A unit is included in the course on blending of colors and home fur- and wear suitable clothing, aids the girls to look nishings. Learning to buy. to care for. their best at all times. ln the Senior lligh this is an elective and credited course. The subjects this course includes are: interior deco- rating, foods. family relationship. homemak- ing, first aid and home nursing. Mrs. Pink takes some of her pupils to the Thorofare at least three times each year. There they learn to purchase the freshest vegetables and choicest cuts of meats. Yery often classes prepare a luncheon and invite teachers in to taste their cooking. The course includes, among many girls the other things. a unit on sewing. The each make one outfit which they show ladies of the township every spring in the fashion show that they produce. lt is a gala affair with mood music to accompany each new outfit. The general slump taught hy Mr, Pollock studies the fllllflZllllt'lll2llS of slump procedure and the use of the equipment in the shops. lt is lmasically a preparation for advanced or Senior High slump classes. Under direction of Mr. Chalfant. senior slump students turn out very fine and beautiful pieces of wood- work which inchule end talmles. unusual lamps and lmookcases. Mr. Camplmell's metal slump arranged in the show case of the main lolmlmy a display of dishes. lamp hases. and hook ends. all made from hammered metal. Auto Mechanics Club, under sponsorship of Mr. Pollock. has purchased a car and is working on relmuilding' it. using the facilities of the shops. The mechanical rlraxring students. under the supervision of Mr. Segina. are lmecoming adept at drafting and designing buildings. lfach student is assigned projects of drawing to specifications a lmuilding or machinery. Other projects iuchule designing of engines and cars and many other mechanical devices. These enalmle the lmoys to use the almility mmf clrawing that urged them to take the Mechanical Drau- ing course. Pupils who learn the fuiulamentals of drafting and designing at Shaler have the hest mechanical drawing education offered in high schools. For the second year Shaler is offering to the girls an opportunity to learn almout me- In metal shop Fred Sallade puts a blade in a hacksaw while Vince Warren cuts on the band saw as jerry Matulevic and watching Dave Bagaley weld a manifold.
