plays. Their biggest project for this year consisted of writing a thousand word investi- gative theme. The juniors read and acted out scenes from Our Tofun, and gave talks and panel discussions. Odette Real shared the work of this class. Senior students have a choice of English classes. either linglish l2 or General linglish. linglish l2, the .Xcadeniie Course. is the one devoted to linglish literature with emphasis on the works of Shakespeare. llcneral ling- lish students learn to write business letters using the hest procedures and styles: a short story anthology provides the literature portion of the course. lioth of these groups worked on the terin paper project. a very important part of every senior's life. ln the senior high school currieuluni are two elective courses. lfnglish composition prepares students for college freshnian ling- lish. while Speech offers an opportunity to gain poise and assurance. Physical education in the senior high is similar to the course set up in the junior high. They are alike in many xvavs. hut the course in the senior high is lmroader. The hovs have a physical program that is quite extensive. They take part in rigorous physical activities that coincide with social and hygenic stand- ards. Basketball. touch football. wrestling and softhall are included as part of their procedure, Calisthenics, vollev hall and track and field are also important to their program. They hope. in the future. to include a greater varietv of activities. The girls learn to enjoy active participation in a varietv of sports. and to promote good sportsmanship. Thev learn good playing tech- niques and development and understanding of game rules, Thev also want to further good hodv coordination and advance activities that will carrv over into leisure time and adult life. May Day with its pageantrv. gymnastic ex- hihitions and Senior Class Queen, has long heen a Shaler tradition. Planned hv teachers and students, this vear's theme will he 'lhlusic XYe Like. A member of the Gymnast Club per- forms on the horse while others watch his technique. V -fl Qrau and jim Hayes spar as Grau jabs with a left and Hayes blocks him. The Gymnast Club illustrates rhythm and coordination by doing exercises to music.
