Qur principal can be your personaf frleno' The chances to learn and to become mature students are at your fingertips at Shafter High School. As your principal I am asked the question, What makes a good school? In reply it must be said that the element of an outstanding school is the teaching staff. Dur- ing the past several years we have managed to maintain an excellent staff and have expanded in areas of English, Social Studies, music and HIT. The second element of a good school is the student body. Stu- dents have many opportunities to grow, to learn, and to improve. With a growing school new areas are open for exploration. These are reflected in the diversity of courses that are offered. The third element of a good school is that of the buildings and financial support, We have built new offices, library, study hall, new homemaking and classroom wing, remodeled arts and crafts, and will remodel the science room this summer. Construction of the new auditorium, which will feature additional facilities for music and dramatics, is in progress. These facilities have been planned to take care of our growing enrollment. We have increased from 573 stu- dents in 1951 to 750 students during the current year. The fourth ingredient of a good school is that of community and parental support. Shafter High has been fortunate in the interest shown by the public in good education, through their financial sup- port and through their interest and participation in the many school activities.
