C aaa ejshfsiory TIME: One hour before launching. MOOD: Tense. SETTING: Shadyside High School 'Testing Center. CHARACTERS: 83 excited seniors. After years of preparation for this eventful occasion. we are making the final check before take off into at completely different atmosphere-the world around us and thc space age. ll's hard to express what we are thinking as we hear the final count down. We get flash backs of previous years. Four - Freshmen. We were just beginning to participate in activities in which we hopetl to be the leaders later. We showed signs of promise in the field of education and also in the sports realm. Three - We achieved the rank of sophomores. We began taking part in many of the school's activities -there was band. the various clubs and the athletic contests. This. too. was the year of our first play. lf Girls Asked Boys for Dates. Two 1 Juniors-fand what a busy year! Our class play, We Shook the Family Tree. held in the spring. was a success. and enabled us to give the '58 sgnityrs gi beautiful Teahouse of the August Moon prom. One f Seniors! What a wonderful feeling! and in rapid succession so many good things were coming our way. There was the arrival of our class rings. the purchasing of our pictures. the choosing of the white carna- tion as class flower. our colors. blue and white. How Sweet lt ls! was the controversial motto we selected. The successful play. The People Versus Maxine Lowe, put on in April. and the wonderful May prom given us by the juniors are still fresh in our memories. The after graduation all-night party. sponsored by com- munity groups and our parents. will always be remembered asa wonderful send-off! The count down is completed. We hear the first strains of our commencement march. 'lhe time has come for us to depart. Sad time? Yes. but How Sweet lt ls!
