However. there were new teachers in the following departments: Eighth grade. social studies. industrial arts, and science. XVe also added an art department. Although the new addition caused considerable confusion. this years faculty did an excellent job in coping with the various situations that they had come upon. W'e are proud to have had the guidance of these fine men and women. We hope that we mold our lives well as a tribute to our fine teachers. 111 Memorimzz MR. jACOB BARTH gawzdofg When we returned to school this year and saw the work that had been done on the new addition to the high school and realized that children of elementary age were actually attending one of the most modern schools in the valley, we became more than ever aware that our town is behind us. Shady- side is doing everything to provide us with the best education possible. Furthermore, when the new bond issue was passed last November we discovered that a group of men who deserve much credit was behind all of this. That group is the Board of Education. We hope that we can fulfill their ex- pectations and be worthy of having their guidance. and we would like to say thanks to you, Board of Education! Ltfz In rzglifx Mr. If. H. McVay. Mr. XX'illiam j. As September 195-4 came. an anxious group of bewildered youngsters roamed the halls of Shadyside High School. not realizing that this would. in time. be their beloved Alma Mater. We were Freshmen. and all took an interest in clubs. band. and sports. The next year. we acquired the title of Sophomorc, this year we took part in our first assembly programs. Our boys began to be quite outstanding stars in athletics. This was the year signs of leadership began to grow among our classmates. The third year we eagerly accepted our position as hluniors. Our play. You Can't Kiss Caroline. was a great success. Our Senior rings were ordered. Several events were used as fund raising projects for our biggest social event. our wonderful prom-The Mardi Gras. When we entered our final year. we all realized the happiness we had shared and the happiness we would miss by graduating. We anxiously awaited the arrival of our senior rings and pictures. One highlight of our senior year was the beautiful Hi-Y-Teen Formal-Vfinter Wonderland. held December 1-l. Enthusiasm was aroused when we attended the ,lunior-Senior Prom. The beautiful decorations and joy will be greatly remembered by all. We all looked forward to graduation from the new high school. Commencement night we walked proudly across the stage to receive our diplomas. NWe all regretted leaving our Alma Mater-Shadyside High. 'x 'BK '55 ROSAl.lE KOVACHIC Mixed Chorus 1. 2, 1.
