This year has consisted of an outing with local clubs, winter Olympics, listening to various speakers and Heaven Bound. The school sponsor is Coach H. B. Thomas. The sponsoring clergyman is Rev. Joe Pizzino and the sponsoring layman is Mason Elliot. The F.C.A.’s main goal is to reach others for Christ and bring glory and honor to God. 67 HEAD: Terri Wills Senior CO-HEAD: Laura Pachuta Senior Kim Lilly Junior Donna Passal Senior FEATURE TW1RLER Donna Hess — Senior SHADY SPRING 1978 MAJORETTE CORPS FIELD CONDUCTOR Sherry Settle — Senior TIGER BA ND SENIOR BAND MEMBERS Tim Hankins Robin Mills Donna Hess Laura Pachuta Sherry Settle Charles Kincade Donna Passal 70 Teresa Smith Terri Wills o SELECT CHOIR Back Row: Dwayne Cook, treasurer: Chester Workman. They organized all the Homecoming activities and the Snowball Dance. They also aided the Red Cross with their Blood Mobile. OFFICERS: Kevin Hart — President. Mark Miller — Vice Pres., Anita Mann — Secretary. Sherry Underwood — Treasurer. I 9 7 8 P H O T O G R A P H E R S The photographers for 1977-78 consisted of 4 seniors. 3 of which were second year students in the program. The Juniors were trained by Mr. John Lucento and the seniors in the program. They all went through an in depth study of camera and darkroom procedures followed by a year of apprenticeship with seniors in the program. These students are responsible for nearly 65 percent of the photographs in the 1978 SPRING. Thanks a lot. From the Spring Staff. 77 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society is a group of Juniors and Seniors who have maintained an academic average of 3.50 and 3.25. Those members are chosen by the teachers and by other members of N.H.S. The N.H.S. would like to extend our thanks to Mrs. Bow- man and Mr. Snuffer for their guidance and instruction. 78 80 2[u£ The biggest club on campus this year was the Pep Club with 260 members. It was really successful because of dedicated Seniors, Juniors, and especially the Sophomores. We extend our thanks and apprecia- tion to those members who screamed their lungs out even in the Tigers’ lowest moments of “playing the game.” The officers who lead the Pep Club’s successful year were: Anita Mann, president: Mike Miller, vice president; Sandy Deskins, secretary; and Katrina Dykes, treasurer. PANORAMA STAFF F H A This year’s FHA has been active in several areas. At the beginning of the year, the eight members began raising money for a Birth Defect Seminar at Cedar Lakes in December. Raising over $100, they sent 3 people from the club: D. D. Ellison, Vada Meadows, and Lisa Bower. Now the club is working on opening an information cen- ter at the Raleigh Mall. The center will provide information on Child Abuse, Birth Defects, Pregnancies. Abortions, and Financial Aids. They are also planning to sponsor a foster child. The officers this year are: President — Becky Arthur and Lisa Bowyer — secretary — treasurer, Mrs. Williamson. 86 JERRY SETTLE LEE BARKER BILL BOSTIC JOEL WICKLINE 5 O O Captain Co-Captain Co-Captain Co-Captain to | it §’ «p i ; gT 7jj r jfifr ©.' r n blj.; V4VW' V! 1 j tot o - O CO Hm oco 3 -• p 13 P O 1 CO - r r- — r O CO U 3 -• p -o O • on WAYNE FARLEY 5'8 130 lbs. We all have ideas of what we want to be and what we want to do with our lives. These ideas and feelings may change from time to time. Where no future is planned, time will provide one. Where a careful look into the future is taken, success will be more certain. To the class of 1978, I sincerely hope that the future you plan for yourself will be one worth waiting for, and most rewarding to each of you. You have but one life to live, but your plan must include yourself and others. Working and plan- ning together makes for a more successful future. Best Wishes in the Future, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year as Principal of Shady Spring High School. The leadership provided by the Class of “78” has made it an easier job. The school and community can be proud of you. It is my hope that your desire for achievement will lead you into a successful adult life and that your good example will be followed by future graduating classes. The 1978 Spring Staff would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Jack Covey for his patience with us throughout the preparation of our yearbook.
