You have reached the point where adulthood really begins. As seniors you have accomplished a great reservoir of know- ledge which must be added to in the years ahead. Best wishes to each member of the Class of 1965. Principal, A. W. Jackson 39 CLASS HISTORY SEPTEMBER, 1961 we the class of 1965 began our first climb up Mt. Shady Spring. Leading us mountaineers were Meryl Kiser, President; Susan Pettry, Vice-President; Elaine Lilly, Secretary; Mike Slade, Treasurer. The mountain principal was Mr. A. W. Jackson, who proved he could climb along with the best of them. Social activities began in the mountains with our homecoming game. Our Attendant to “Miss Tiger” was Susan Pettry. Ascending higher Curtis Staton was selected to attend All State Band. Dressed up in our Sunday go-to-meetin’ clothes we all gathered to see who of us would be able to continue our climb. With this we made camp. SECOND CLIMB In SEPTEMBER, 1962 we undertook our second climb. Leading us for our second climb were Meryl Kiser, President; Susan Pettry, Vice-Presi- dent; Mike Slade, Secretary; Mary Alderman, Treasurer. Susan Pettry again reigned as our attendant to Miss Tiger.” Our wrestling squad brought fame to our climb by winning the Regional Wrestling Championship and then going even further by winning the State Championship. THIRD CLIMB AUGUST, 1963 the class again began the long climb. Bob Cochran was chosen President; Alan Skelton, Vice-President; Mary Alderman. Secre- tary; Mike Slade, Treasurer. Susan Pettry again was chosen attendant to Miss Tiger” at our homecoming game. Our Junior Play Good Night Ladies” was a big success. With actors Bob Cochran, Robert Thomas, and Susie Cox portraying the main char- acters. Our wrestlers again won the regional champion- ship and the state championship. Everyone says that in the spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love, but ours turned to the Prom; with “Fantasy of the Sea,” as the theme. FOURTH CLIMB STARTING OUR FOURTH CLIMB September, 1964 and knowing that this would be our last, we wanted to make it the best ever and who could make it better than our President, Mike Slade; Vice-President, Alan Skelton, Secretary, Linda Mann; Treasurer, Dawna Lilly. Co-captains of our football team were Danny Calvert and Alan Skelton. Our football season was a success with our being titled Raleigh County Co-Champions. Highlighting the season was the crowning of Homecoming Queen, Gay Catlett; and Miss Spring, Mary Alderman. Another attraction was Donnie Eppcrly winning the regional wrestling championship and going on to the state meet. May Court attendants were Susie Cox, Dawna Lilly, Claudia Lambert, Linda Mann, Susan Pet- try, and Linda Jones. Alan Skelton captained our basketball teams through the year. Our beautiful prom will always be in our hearts, and the other various dances. Looming before us was another mountain called Mt. Future. One road lends to Success; the other to 'Failure. It was up to us which road we would take. We pray that God will shed His richest blessings upon each and every member of THE CLASS OF 1965! 40 Farnus Literatur By Unfamus Riters Bone Crushing in 10 Easy Lessons Shyness Pays -..........
