When April with sweet show'rs hath pierced the Of March with freshness to the deepest root And strengthened every vein with living power That of its vigor bringeth forth the flowery When Zephyr also with his fragrant breath Hath brought new life to every holt and heath With tender shoots of green, and the young sun Within the Ram half of his course hath run, And little birds are making melody drought That sleep the whole night through with open eye, For nature doth them in their hearts stir so, Then people long on pilgrimages to gog And palmers with to travel foreign strands And worship at far shrines in sundry lands.
