Quotations from Chaucer's works appear throughout the book and give an Old English atmos- phere. We hope that every time you turn these pages you will enjoy reliving these pleasant years. Chaucer now suggests that we present to you without further ado the more interesting parts of the book. We can hear him murmuring: Methinket.h it the part of true reason To tell you now of each the condition As truly it did appear to me, And who each was, including his degree, And also what attire each one was in. Yet though he was a true philosopher No money had he ever in his cofferg And all that friends to him had kindly lent On books and learning had he always spent. Of study took he greatest care and heed, No words he spoke of which he had no need, And all was said in form and reverence And short and quick and full of high sentence Replete with moral virtue was his Speech, And gladly would he learn and gladly teach. K'- f 6' 0 X 6111.95 History hen crisp August came around in the year 1948, a group of pilgrims had assembled at Shady Grove to make plans for their four-year journey. Each pilgrim had in his heart a bit of excitement as he was ready to start out from the inn. Before leaving on their journey they chose Miss Ruby Wilson as their leader. During the first year of the journey they took time to roast wieners at Miller Park. Sarah Hege was their Queen of Halloweenp Elsie Bowens, her attendantg and Cletus Potts, king. There were four lost from the pilgrims that first year. It was spring before they interrupted the pilgrimage. Afterwards they journeyed on. Mrs. Lucille Cornatzer was chosen as the leader for the second part of the journey. She had twenty-four followers. The wit of the group was Frank Luper, He made the time pass quickly with his bit of humor. Again Halloween attendants had to be chosen. Ann Browder was the queeng Iva Nelle Chaplin, her attendantg Jerry Gobble, king. A party at the Advance Community Building was a high spot on the trip. Two pilgrims dropped along the way that yearg they were Lee Mock and Hobert Waller. At the half-way mark on the pilgrimage Miss Frances Parsons was our leader. After the party at Bilt- more Dairy, the pilgrims stopped at a movie. A trip to Raleigh with Mr. Frank Hardin and Mr. J. C. Barber was a never to be forgotten event. The biggest thrill was winning the Halloween contest with Betty Cornatzer, Queen, Gloria Davis, attendant, and Jerry Gobble, king. That year the departments of Home Economics and Agriculture were added to make the pilgrimage more worthwhile. The Juniors' leader was Miss Phyllis Grieff, who soon became Mrs. Jimmy Overman. The Halloween Queen was Gloria Davisg Ruth Myers, attendantg and Hobert Carter, king. Again we went to Raleigh and enjoyed visiting State College, seeing the ice show, eating a picnic dinner, and meeting Mrs. Lillie Parker's nephew. The trip was fun. Another pilgrim dropped by the roadside, Sarah Hege. The Junior-Senior Ban- quet was given at the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Winston Salem, North Carolina, on April 13, 1951. There was also a wiener roast at Biltmore Dairy given by the Seniors to the Juniors. The other big thrill was getting our class rings. The Senior Class of 1952. had Z2 Seniors, and Mrs. Parker was our leader. What a busy time that year was! The Seniors wanted to make the Outlook and The Panther the biggest success of all years. The things they remembered m0St were winning the Halloween contest with S60 l. Ol, the most ever collected from any classy being called Senior g the party at Mrs. Parker's house at Christmasg giving the play, Aunt Tilly Goes to Town g and Graduating. To Shady Grove they said good-bye. The pilgrimage was over, and before them was a future with endless opportunity. Their last act was to make plans for another pilgrimage to begin ten years from then. Ruth Mye rs Gloria Davis sg praphgfy HISTORIANS hen the pilgrims disbanded, they agreed to meet again in ten years to see how far each had pro- gressed on his separate journey. The meeting place was to be the inn where they had met so many times in the past. At the inn to greet the guests were pilgrims who had remained to help the others along the way. Among the hosts and hostesses were Iva Nelle Chaplin, Hobert Carter, Doris Potts, Jerry Gobble, and Marie Nance. The guests arrived in groups which had been formed for the journey to the inn. Thomasine Carter, a photographer's model, and Christine Carter, a leading television comedienne, arrived from New York by air along with the politician of the group, Frank Luper, candidate for President of the United States, Dick Vogler, owner and operator of a slaughter house in Texas, and Cletus Potts, the dream of the teen age group on the screen. The reunion at the inn for Gloria Davis, professional basketball player of the Olympian team, and Elsie Bowens, basketball coach for Hanes Hosiery, is a customary thing, for they often stop there on their trips about the world. Ruth Myers, art consultant for Davis Department Store, owned by Betty Rose Cornatzer, recently held her art exhibit at the inn where it is still on display for the guests. The teachers of the group, Ann Browder, a music teacher from Europe, and Ida Sue Hendrix, a French teacher from Columbia University, arrived together just in time to greet Nan Wilson, the owner and operator of Advance's first drive -in theater, and Mildred Riley, a newly elected Congresswoman from North Carolina. Barbara Barney, the first lady dentist from Advance, and Junior Myers, Ernest Tubb's music teacher, arrived along with two good friends, Jimmy Cornatzer, an undertaker, and John Carr Phelps, the pastor of The First Methodist Church of Chicago. The reunion at the inn brought together old friends who to the inn and its great leaders paid tribute. Ann Browde r PROPHET ,Cast Will ffm! STRATFORD JEWELRY Che Wife af Hall: With them was there a Wife of Bath, the city, But she was somewhat deaf and 'twas a pity, Of making cloth she'd always had such haunt That she surpassed all those of Ypres and Gaunt. Of all the parish wives there was not one That before her to the off'ring should have gone, And if they did, of course, so wroth was she That she was out of human charity. Her covershiefs were woven close of ground, And I believe they must have weighed ten pounds, All these she wore on Sundays on her head. Her hose were all of finest scarlet red All straightly laced, with shoes both soft and new. In truth she was a comely sight to view. , X , Z fi .. , W 'ir S I X, I, K X 'Ww f.1.w1 :rl M.
