Naval Academy in 1953. During World War ll he saw duty with the Navy V-5 program. At the end of the war, while remaining a member of the Naval Reserve, LCDH Matheson went back to college. He graduated from the Boston University General College in 1948, and he was attending the Boston University College of Liberal Arts when he entered the Naval Academy in 1949. Since 1953, LCDR Matheson has served on board USS Lewis Hancock 'DD-5751 as First Lieutenant, USS McGowan QDD-5781 as Staff Operations Officer to COMDESDW 202, USS Hermitage lLSD-341 as Navigator, and USS Arnold J. lsbell DD-869+ as Chief Engineer. He was assistant officer in charge of Navy Recruiting for the state of Oklahoma from 1958 - 1950. LCDR Matheson was serving on USS Arnold J. lsbell in Westpac when he received orders to USS SHADWELL LSD-151, in February 1953. LCDR Matheson reported abaord USS SHADWELL 7 March 1963 to assume the duties of Executive Officer.
