DW 1' j ft SP' I . .Is N i if C'mon and go Howoiianl Highlanders keep o Shodle tradition with their Hawaiian attire, Hey! We're on film. The photographer captures the Varsity volleyball team as they ring the Victory Dell. One cheer that seems to have caught on at Shadle Park is Chickaloclsa. lt is usually performed by a rather large cheerleader between the 8rd and 4th quarters of a football, basketball or volleyball game. Historically the cheer goes back at least to the early part of the century. ln 1912 a slightly different version of the cheer wos performed at Granger High School. My acquaintance with it goes back to my high school days at Lincoln High School in Tacoma in the 194O's. lt was a fairly popular cheer at that time even though it had and still has, its ir- rational overtones, said Evan Bell, Mr. Chiclsalocka. The cheer was introduced at Shadle Park in 1968. I taught it to one of our exuberant cheerleaders, related Bell, and the following week she had yours truly do it ata pep con. The rest is history.
