Below, Brendan Kerin, one of the Drum Majors. v And the Band played on. This year Shadle’s Marching Band consists of 190 members, the biggest Shadle has had in several years. The Marching Unit played at 9 football games, 4 of which they performed at half¬ time. This includes the Hi-Lassies, Cheer¬ leaders, Color Guard, Highland Dancers, Majorettes, Pipers, and three Drum Ma¬ jors. During Basketball season the Marching unit played at 13 Shadle home games at the Coliseum. The Hi-Lassies, Dancers, Twirlers and Color Guard did floor rou¬ tines while the Band played popular tunes. This group was involved in many extracur¬ ricular activities throughout the school year. They participated in the Spokane Valley Festival Parade, and the University of Idaho’s Homecoming parade where they represented Shadle and the city of Spokane for which they received the first place trophy. They performed in a mass Band Salute to Disneyland in the Univer¬ sity of Idaho’s Kibbie Dome. They also marched in the Lilac Festival parade. The Concert Band gave several evening concerts and participated in large group contests. This Marching Unit represented Shadle at all athletic events and city wide perfor¬ mances. Each member put in a great deal of time and effort. Mr. Bentz directing the Band??? 26

The cheerleaders are: (from left to right); front row: Sophia Beach, Christie Atkinson, Kelly Severud, Back row: Janet Lightner, Vickie Strate, Den- nette Schlepp, Debbie Rector. This year the cheerleaders were really active. They did neat things like TP houses and made goodies for the guys and gals. They went with the Hi-lassies won the contest for the trip to Disneyland to march. You really have to give these girls a lot of credit because over the year they covered over 220 events, from the first football games to the basketball and wrestling in the winter to the last baseball games and track meets in the spring. Well we hope that you guys and gals really appreciate all the work and time that these seven girls did just to get you guys to work a little harder when the going got rough. 28
