RECOLLECTIONS On August 11, 1973 some of us went to a garden party. Rick Nelson wasn't there, but. some heavy sounds in the person of Straightlace and California's El Chicano were. 12,000 people got off on 20 hours of music. History repeated itself with the Last Chance Sundance and Boogie Party. Buddy Miles and Sugarloaf led the list of performers. Concerts were a rarity. Chicago and FlareEarth were two of the best. Xpo is bringing in a few good acts. ln movieland Last Tango ln Paris , saw Marlon Brando get scalped. The new James Bond was a flop. Sleuth , A Touch Of Class . and Dillinger were worth the admission price. And lLord willingl they closed the cover on the saga of the planet of the apes. Those wonderful folks who gave you sauerkraut brought out the Volkswagen Sports Beetle. A S3.000. jazzed up waste of a grand. Spokane's revamped lndians took the PCL championship in three games over the Tucson Toros. Hockey was big with the Jets and two NHL exhibition games. When the season was over Hammerin' Hank Aaron stood at 713 homeruns. Next time for sure! Ms. Billie Jean King put supermouth Bobby Fliggs in his place with a 6-4. 6-3. 6-3 win. Oakland took the Mets in seven games to win their second series in two years. Remember 1974? Diversionwise it was a very good year.
