3 SPORRA Staff Sticks With Focal Point Layout No yearbook! Ridiculous! But that's what the decision at the end of last year was. But the money materialized and a class developed. and another vearbook was underway. Sporran '73 wasn't just any yearbook. Even though the whole staff was new except for two people, it was entered in the National Scholastic Press Association Contest. Despite the fact no school in Spokane had entered this competition for the last few years. Shadle's staff thought they could handle it. Following last year's example, the focal point layout technique was used because of the success it brought. Shadle's yearbook was used as a Northwest demonstrator for its layout format in 1972 73. At the start of the year l was terrified, as the year progressed I was just worried. When the year was finally over, I swore I would take math next year, says Editor, junior Tom Lathen. .4 ,W ,. GL Gets Terrific Start Once again Shadle Park's Girls' League got off to a fantastic start by helping the sophomore girls feel more comfortable in a new school. This feat was accomplished partially by the Big-Little Sister party held before school started. The girls were acquainted with the many different organizations within the school and then personally shown around the school by their big sister . Shortly after the opening of school, the annual Girls' State con was held. Carolyn Harper and Karen Erickson. Shadle's representatives, related their weeks' experiences in Ellensburg. Girls' State is a model government, offering girls from all over the chance to learn the steps involved in a functional government. Also featured was Schlowe Kowalski, Ferris's foreign exchange student from Cologne, Germany. Honored at the convocation was Patsy Howard, September's Girl of the Month, who was responsible for the success of the Big- Little Sister con. To keep things interesting, they sponsored a Leg Contest. Three sets of unknown masculine legs were presented before the student body for them to match with their owners. Later that month. Cindy Wands was named October's Girl of the Month for her outstanding performance in The Sound of Music at the Civic Theatre. November 11 was the date of the annual Sadie Hawkins dance. An estimated four hundred couples attended, dressed in the traditional Dog Patch costumes. Costume judging was based on originality, theme. and difficulty in making. Dava Walker, Ferrell Stone, Liz Liezen. Dave Sessions, Joan Stolz and Chris Simpson triumphed as winners and received pizza passes to Chico's.
