DE Aids Vocational Business Education Part of the learning process in man spent long hours pondering Business Education employs the over tapes. use of dictaphones. Roberta Coff- Those who plan on entering the business world after grad- uation find business educa- tion and vocational courses at Shadle Park especially use- ful, stated Mr. Ed Feldhusen, Business Education Depart- ment head. Advanced typing and short- hand were taught in the secre- tarial science course, a two hour block, which also gave students experience by per- forming the actual secretarial duties in class. Distributive Education, a class for seniors only, offered part- time work for students. ln- class instruction on market- ing, sales promotion, and so- cial and economic responsibil- ities benefited them on the job. By working in the public and business offices, students ac- quired clerical skills and prac- tical experience. n ,M

Boys Invade Home Ee, Girls Return to Shop lnvading the Home Economic classes for a second year, boys learned how to buy, plan and prepare meals. Students in the foods department heard speakers from the U and l Sugar Company and the State Wheat Commission. Girls made jackets, skirts and a suit or coat in tailoring classes. To see if they liked their suits or not, the girls made them out of a less expen- sive material before finishing them in wool. Home Furnishings became popular with students as the enrollment increased this year. They learned how to re- finish wood furniture and re- upholster other furniture. Field trips to outstanding homes and to a home furnish- ings display at FortWrightCol- lege added interest. Future interests in interior decorating encouraged girls to take drafting, while boys took it for architecture work. Boys learned how to construct furniture in wood shop. They also studied how trees grow and are cut for construction. The sole girl in electronics studied the principles of elec- tricity with her fellow stu- dents. The course prepares them for electronic careers.
