Business Education Classes Stress New Business Skills Office Practice and Automa- tion classes, offered for the first time, stressed develop- ment of business skills for full-time employment and per- sonal use. Bookkeeping, typ- ing, stenography and office machines prepared 1066 Busi- ness Education students for future careers. Office Practice emphasized Shelley Greene ponders her next lesson in Mrs. Magnuson's second- class working in a business at- mosphere, while Automation familiarized the student with business machines. Typing and shorthand pre- pared students for their fu- tures as secretaries, business- men, or housewives. Balanc- ing bookkeeping assignments provided practical experience for budgeters. Business ma- jors learned to operate elec- tric typewriters, key-driven calculators, full-keyboard ma- chines and duplicating and transcribing machines. All Business courses strove to acquaint the students with the ever-changing techniques of the business world. is one of the many tasks for Denise Walker in Shorthand. Language Classes Aided y New La Extending language lab facili- ties and adding classroom workbooks and texts con- tributed to foreign language classes this year. Latin students used the langu- age lab for the first time this year. Instructors taught basic drills over the microphone since no Latin tapes were available. Workbooks for classroom study and a new German text, The German Heritage, aided teachers and students by in- troducing a more modern in- terpretation of the language. Scenic photos helped give experience in speaking and forming sentences. After see- ing a photo, the class would discuss it and answer queries. OO b Facilities 5-..
