The class studied the causes of World War I, the war itself, the effect, and post war years which led to the next world war. They also studied how the wars changed the world and affected the people. Students can better understand the aftermath of war by experienc- ing the post war years of World War ll, expressed Mr. Chattin. The class was designed to help the students see what might occur if there was to be another World War. Left: Students gained a realistic view of world problems, learned background to contemporary crises and saw history come alive through effective use of educa- tional films in the social studies classes. Continued use of films, with special emphasis on the new releases which added up-to-date interpreta- tion and facts, marked the year for the 2300 enrollees in the social studies classes. ibepartment Head Mr. Howard McNew said that at least 430 students took two classes, thus raising the total de- partment enrolIment.J Social studies film bookings through the audio visual center totaled 442 or 48 per cent of the school's total use of films, indicat- ing the department's reliance on this media. l l
