Even serious problems may contain a note of humor for Wil¬ liam Taylor and vice-principal Keith Rostvold, left. They fre¬ quently confer to coordinate Shadle ' s administrative policy. Mr. Taylor silently reflects on Reverend Bill Tatum ' s speech during the spring ASB installa¬ tion con. Shadle Park High School opened September, 1957, with William W. Taylor as its first principal. Mr. Taylor graduated from public high school in Whitefish, Mon¬ tana, and received a BA degree from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, four years later. He taught at Cass Lake, Minnesota, for one year and at Cutbank, Montana, for five years. In 1935 he moved to Spokane and began teaching math at Lewis and Clark High School. He became LC’s vice-principal in 1942. During these years of experience, Mr. Taylor gained knowledge about teachers and instruction methods, which enabled him to gather a top professional staff at Shadle Park. The common educational goal is the best possible edu¬ cation for the individual student! Before Shadle opened in 1957, Mr. Taylor conducted an intensive six-week summer training program for the entire staff. This was designed to acquaint the teachers, coordinate the cur¬ riculum, set the activities schedule, and establish a basic school philosophy. His highly efficient and effective or¬ ganization has earned national recognition for Shadle.
