Home Economics Stresses Good Family Living RUTH BIHR Christian College. A.A. University of Missouri, 8.S. Cooking, Home Management Instructing students in the domestic arts of home mangement, cooking, and fashion design, the Home Economics Department gives students workable knowledge and experience in the many areas involved with running a home. Mrs. Bihr, head of this department, teaches classes in basic meal planning, table setting, and cooking, while Mrs. Whitt instructs in sewing. Mrs. Bihr is very proud of the fact that for the first time in many years, some of her classes include boys. The Home Economics Department prepares students to be efficient homemakers of the future. Students Ability To Communicate Through the study of grammar and composition in conjunction with English and American Literature, the English Department attempts to enrich the student's ability to think logically and to plan his writing intelligently. Under the leadership of Miss Mackey, head of the English Department, and Mrs. Walker, head of the Fine Arts Department, pilot courses in communications have been taught to sophomores and juniors. Sophomores received an introductory course in public speaking and juniors in oral interpretation. Mrs. Walker and Miss Brasell taught the mechanics of public speaking and oral interpretation while the English Department contributed composition and the analysis of poetry to the communications course. The English Department offers regular courses in Sophomore, Junior, and Senior English. In addition, students may choose Honors Junior and Senior English or Advanced Placement English.
