Toward Higher Achievements The demanding job of Vice-Principal belongs to Mr. William Prentice. He received a B.S. degree from Samford University and a M.A. degree from Peabody College and has taught biology and physical education. In addition to being in charge of student discipline, the Vice-Principal is responsible for school text books and class attendance. Although this is Mr. Prentice's first year as Vice-Principal, his past teaching experience and firm patience provide an excellent background for his current responsibilities. WILLIAM PRENTICE An essential part of any organization is a business manager who can handle its funds efficiently. This is the responsibility of Mrs. Margaret Hill now serving in her first year as Business Manager at Shades Valley. Having served as a guidance counselor at Valley before is another phase of her varied career, which also includes teaching history. Mrs. Hill handles the distribution of all school funds and transactions involving the sale of football tickets. In Decisions For The Future JOYCE WOOD University of Alabama, 8.A,, M.S. Girls' Counselor Assisting in college choices, selecting subjects, and discussing academic problems with students are a few of the duties performed by our experienced counselors. Mr. Horton B. Chamblee. now serving in his twenty-first year, is the boys' counselor. Mrs. Joyce Wood, a new addition to this department, is the counselor for the girls, and helping the sophomores again this year is Mrs. Martha Vines. The sincere desire of the counselors to treat each student as an individual with different needs and aspirations is one of the reasons for the excellent relationship between faculty and student body. Helping the student to make the most of his abilities and to become a useful part of today's society is the foremost aim of this department. 23
