Seeking World Understanding Again this year members of the history club visited the Mercy Home as one of its projects. This organization annually donates history books to the Library in an endeavor to promote good will and international understanding. Their programs, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Goldfarb. are geared to furthering knowledge and awareness of other countries, and include scheduled dinner meetings that arc enjoyed by everyone. Promoting American Patriotism The American Legion sponsors an oratorical contest each year in an effort to promote Americanism. Peggy Leatherwood, last year’s regional winner and second in the county, tell Jack Wright this year’s regional winner of challenges ami opportunities to come through participation in the contest. The American Studies Club was created with the purpose of promoting better understanding of the American way. Under the guidance of Mr. Gaylor. the club participates in both visual and verbal activities to further the self-education of its members. Algebra n Whether finding proportions for cropping a picture, using logarithms for chemistry. or making calculations for testing a physics theory, Mountics are employing symbols of a universal language. Helping to make this language useful in preparation for the study of medicine, science, engineering and other specialized fields, the Math Department offers courses from Record Keeping to Advanced Placement Mathematics, a one year course in calculus, for which some students receive college credit.
