JANE GAYLOR Howard College, A.B,, Our counselors strive to help each student attain the highest degree of accomplishment his capabilities, personality, and vision can combine to make possible. It is in the counselors’ office that the many facet guidance program is centered. Here students arc oriented to Valley’s program, helped with choice of subjects each year, with personal problems, choice of careers, of college, College Boards and ACT tests. Scholarships and financial aid, even finding employment or securing needed books, fees, and clothing are part of their job. Out of school the counselors are busy attending meetings, learning more about the curriculum and college requirements. Counsels and Supports HUCH H. STEGALL Livingston State, B.S. University of Ala., M.A. Rendering regular reports to the County Hoard of Education of all of Valley’s financial transactions is the exacting job of Mr. Alexander, our business manager, and Mrs. Rogers, his assistant. Their job ranges front advising the faculty and students on purchasing supplies of the best quality and lowest prices to the handling of football tickets. Mr. Alexander gives valuable assistance to the functions of all the organizations, and at the same time his office provides experience for students entering the field of business administration. Mounties Constant contact with teachers, parents, and students is a must for Mr. Stegall, our Vice Principal, who has the important job of assisting Dr. Peake. His main concern is with attendance and discipline, one of the most challenging aspects of today’s educational system. Mr. Stegall is one of Valley’s staunchest supporters in the field of sports, his interest dating back to his own college basketball days. When time allows, he enjoys fishing and hunting. Library Places World at Mounties Fingertips BETTY BEAL Assistant Librarian Muskingum College, B.S. MARTHA COBB Librarian Howard College, A.B. University of Ala., L.S. RUTH STONE Clerical Assistant University of Ala. Placed at the head of activity centers is Shades Valley’s library. Here more than twenty-five thousand books arc available every day with an average daily circulation of two hundred fiftv-thrcc books. Mrs. Cobb and Mrs. Beal, our librarians, assisted by Mrs. Stone, work diligently with twenty-eight student assistants to maintain one of the most efficient departments in the school. In addition to the maintenance of books and periodicals, the staff is responsible for audio-visual aids. In the attractive environment of our library, students are given a greater understanding of the world’s art, science, music, literature, and history. ... Keeping the Wheels Moving Because of the four members of the office staff the wheels of the office arc kept running. The registration of new students. Dr. Peake’s correspondence, and keeping the classrooms supplied with teachers in case of absentees are some of Mrs. Bush’s duties; while Mrs. Pugh compiles and keeps up with the vital statistics of the students and the school. Always with a telephone at her ear is Mrs. Vines who contacts the absentees and helps those who need to leave school. Least seen, hut none the less important is Mrs. Rogers, the assistant bookkeeper. 13
