Valley's Administration Organizes, FRANK A. PEAKE. Principal Olivet College. A.H.; Howard College. M.A., LL.D. Dr. Peake’s many contributions in the field of education reflect his deep concern for each student at Valley. Our busy principal served on the State course of Study Committee which assured Valleyites of the most recent courses available. As president of the National Council of the National Honor Society, he not only represents Shades Valley but also the state of Alabama. He represented Valley on the College Entrance Examination Board and continues to attend these meetings; and serves as State Director of the National Commission on Safety Education. He is known for his active participation as a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and is an advisory member of the Executive Committee of the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals. One can easily see how Dr. Peake, through his diversified activities and his many contributions, has helped to prepare the students at Valley, who venture into a world of rapid growth and strong competition. 10

Nestled in the heart of the Valley, Shades Valley High School holds a prominent place in the community. Through the administration’s efforts. Valley holds a high national scholastic standing. To prepare the students for the emerging curriculum with outstanding universities. Dr. Peake and the counselors are invited each year to visit these institutions to participate in a study of the new trends in the changing educational program. In the office, counselors aid students in making wise decisions for their coming years, and the activities of the various departments are co-ordinated so that students are given a well-rounded concept of life. The administration also offers citizens of the Valley facilities for voting, athletic contests, and community programs at which students are given an opportunity to serve. Thus, through the work of the administration, students can become an integral, working part of society as mature individuals. 9

Counsels and Supports HUCH H. STEGALL Livingston State, B.S. University of Ala., M.A. Rendering regular reports to the County Hoard of Education of all of Valley’s financial transactions is the exacting job of Mr. Alexander, our business manager, and Mrs. Rogers, his assistant. Their job ranges front advising the faculty and students on purchasing supplies of the best quality and lowest prices to the handling of football tickets. Mr. Alexander gives valuable assistance to the functions of all the organizations, and at the same time his office provides experience for students entering the field of business administration. Mounties Constant contact with teachers, parents, and students is a must for Mr. Stegall, our Vice Principal, who has the important job of assisting Dr. Peake. His main concern is with attendance and discipline, one of the most challenging aspects of today’s educational system. Mr. Stegall is one of Valley’s staunchest supporters in the field of sports, his interest dating back to his own college basketball days. When time allows, he enjoys fishing and hunting.
