Burt Stanford tcenterb. Burt made all County and all State. Burt was voted the most valuable player by his team mates. Since his playing here Burt has given an acreditable showing to Shades Cahaba. Bill Franke tright halfl. Elected to pilot the team by his mates, Bill did a very neat job although be- ing injured the first part of the season, he roared back in fine style. SHADES CAHABA THE 1945 SEASON The Cahaba Mounties opened the season on Ellenburg Field against Leeds Green Wave . We won the first tilt with flying colors. Minor was our second conquest and again Cahaba was victor- ious, letting the seeond string carry much of the load. The Mounties next .journeyed to Legion Field and before 8,000 spectators conquered a high- ly favored Woodlawn eleven, Christiansen's punt- ing made him the star of the back field while Cowart and Acton ran him a close second. Cahaha's only defeat of the season was at the hands of Huey- town, an undefeated team, Although the Moun- ties lost, much credit is due them for the hard playing they did. Homecoming featured Jones Valley as Cahaba's foe while the Mounties prov- ed to be just a little too much for their opponents. The Phillips Red Raiders came to Cahaba in hopes to revenge their defeat of last year but our boys just wouldn't give in, Christiansen will long lie remembered for his 70 yard dash on the first play of the game scoring a touchdown. North- port's Wild Cats, a supposedly strong team, were the next victims. The Cats were completely help- less until the final period. Cowart, completed a pass to .Iohnson who made a spectacular touch- down, The second string saw quite a hit of play in the game against Mortimer Jordan who simply didn't have a chance. The final game was played on a mud and rain soaked field and Cahaba downed St. Bernard to end a season of eight wins and one loss. BURT STANFORD All County Center, Burt Stanford with the Shades Valley Press Trophy for the most valuable player at Shades Cahaba this year. This trophy will remain in Burt's possession until next year when it will be presented again to the most valua- ble player. This trophy was presented by Farmer Seale at. the Annual Banquet. Shades Cahaba's Annual Football Banquet was held November 30 in the Shades Cahaba lunchroom.
