Frank Cockrell is next on the list He has his eye on a certain miss I don't know yet who she is But once he finds her she'll be his. Herschel Byers is a romantic guy On a girl ln town he has his eye His occupation is a farmer you see An a very successful one he'll be. Bill Rooze is a very jumpy guy If you'd see him dance you'd know why He's very nice and very neat when there'e a girl he's going to meet. Robert Ilack is a farmer to be He's been working on a fanm all summer you see He's grown a few more inches this year And is just right for a blond you'll hear Emma Hamilton is quite a girl All the boys she gives a whirl She give the last one quite a start But didn't know she'd lose her heart. Gimbel Bros. have stores in New York, Pittsburgh, Phila- l ., delphia, and many other large cities. I had to visit these stores and see w g what their latest models and fashions were, and to do my buying. ' I was to be ready to leave Milwaukee at noon on Saturday ln order to K , start my buying tour on Monday. I decided to make my tour by train. V I was at the depot at 11:45 and had time to buy a few magazines, etc. up A to pass the time away. IVV' 2 Mg My first stop was in Chicago, Illinois. Upon my arrival there Satur- f. day evening, I went immediately to make reservatlons at the Palmer House. 5 -Q I planned to stay in the city for two or three days in order to tour most ' ' of the larger stores. As I was walking in the direction of the hotel, an ' advertisement of Spike Jones and his orchestra caught my eye. Now I'm not ff Q. . usually interested in his type of music, so I seldom pay much attention to K-Q' -. his advertising, but something on that poster made me stop to examine it. :ffl 47 .1 1 It was the name of his new singing star, Doris Marie Shoemaker. You see, ' ' N '1 jg. I was formerly from Shadeland, Indiana, and I went to school there with a U '7' I 'A girl by exactly the same name. But it couldn't possibly be the same girl, 'ff if ' ' for she always sang more stylish songs. I just had to find out to satisfy JLQLTTZ f my curiosity. So I went to the Chicago Theater where they were having re- ., I hearsals and sure enough, it was the same Doris Marie. I knew it was she 6 f as soon as I stepped inside. There she was singing at the top of her voice- . -':',k ' while behind her the 'city sl1ckers were tearing up the place. I d1dn't 1: A- f' ' 'ff' have long to stay, but we did have time to renew old acquaintances. She ' told me she had been singing with Spike for a year and liked it fine. I planned to leave early Wednesday morning On Tuesday evening, as I was relaxing in my room, reading the society col- ' umn in the evening newspaper, the name of Batt McDowell focused before my V, l, .1 ,. eyes. She was in the graduating class of 'IE WIEE Doris. The paper was ,gig r' H5 announcing her return to America, after being in Africa for two years as a Y., gy? ,KW ' missionary. I knew she always wanted to be a missionary and now she was a 5-it-' if great success. , ' I W 7 K, K- , On Wednesday morning, I took the train out of Chicago and arrived in zW1 - 'S-43.125, Detroit, Michigan, about 4:30 P. M. I planned to stay only one day. So I ' ' called a friend of mine who let me stay there. I was rather hungry after ', ?,.-11 my ride so I went down to a nearby restuarant for a sandwich. Just as I ' 4, X was about to enter, someone bumped into me on his way out. He stopped to J ' make apologies and I thought I recognized him. He looked at me and I knew f V N. immediately it was Charles Stewart also of the '48 graduating class.
