Take fifteen highly energetic, productive students, throw them together, and what results? A great journalism staff, that's what! In Journalism Class, where creativity and productivity count tand a little artistic ability doesn't hurt eitherl, no time is the right time for goofing off. Keeping busy is the name of the game-and plenty of things are always available to keep one busy! The Journalism staff for '83-'84 year worked hard and steadily on not only the Tomahawk, but also the Pepper. Many students who were not even in the class aided the staff, lending a helping hand whenever needed. Sometimes, tempers flared and patience wore thin, but everyone worked on, and all those hours of exasperation finally paid off in the best yearbook ever. The Tomahawk staff wished to express many thanks to Bobby Lewis for drawing the fine artwork in this book. Without his skill, the book would not have been so successful. -., , , ....--.-............-.-.---..-.......................' .... ., ,. ...-..............-............-,.w... ..... i l l ri I JP i Row one: Beth Burkhiser, Beth Banks, Sherry Mattly, Michelle Ballanger, Lisa Smith, Angela Proctor, Rhonda Johnston, Row two: Melinda Lucas, Martin Jud Pratt Denise DeVore Becky Eddy Sheila Gorden Row Laura , y , , , - three: Corrinia McDaniel, Susan Wakefield, Bonnie Crouch, Mrs. Thomas. They finished with a 4-5 record and a 3-4 record in conference play, good enough for fourth place. One of the highlights was defeating Melcher-Dallas for the fifth time in twenty years and only the second time in school history. The Warriors greatest strength through the 1983 season was the experience of the upper classmen, but the weakness was the injuries to some of the inexperienced players. The gym was decorated in Lavender, pink, and white. Two hand painted silhouettes were on each end of the gym with two water fountains. Three hundred balloons were let down at the beginning of the dance. King Zbornick from Albia supplied the music. From the stand point of dedication, pride, and determination, this was one of the most gratifying seasons in many years for the team and coaches. Not once could this group be condemmed for giving less than 1O00!0 in practice or at a game. Their attitude toward each other, their coaches and other teams made them winners in every category that counts. These young men will develop into a good team and should add a great deal to the high school program. i l .-.-.....,..-.ff-...-...-.........,... T JR. There is joy and excitement for the long awaited accomplishment. There is a tingling sensation of starting out new and fresh and on your own. This is the time when you find out who you really are. Yet, there is sadness and tears for the loss of the friends that have become your family. Each one must go his own separate way - but it is never easy to say good-bye. Graduation - the closing of one chapter of your life and the opening of another. Memories we will never forget, experiences we have yet to live. Leaving for the Lake of the Ozarks on a Saturday morning, the seniors, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Busch, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, and Mr. and Mrs. Bash, began their senior trip with strength and energy. Saturday was spent searching the area, shopping, and riding water slides and go-carts. Swimming in the lake, cooking out, and riding more go-carts were the highlights of Sunday. By Monday morning, all was packed on the bus and ready to go. A few took a final walk down the strip while others said bye to the turtle, the overweight cat, and the frogs in the pool. The buses arrived back in Seymour early Monday evening, just in time for the chaperones to take a nap. POOL :naw S stcwufsz. .X 5 . .
