In him, students find a teacher and a coach whom they respect. Under that tough exterior lies a dedicated educator who puts the student in the position of prime importance. For these reasons every student is proud to know him, and we, the class of 1965, take pride and pleasure in dedicating this Tomahawk to Coach Hanna, L . Ggmass of '65 Class officers are: Bill Anderson, Vice-Presidentg Candy Kimple, Treasurer, Joe Snook, Presidentg Barbara Vruble, Secretary. The fall of 1961 saw a group of bewildered freshmen walking through the halls of SCHS. This throng progressed into the seniors of 1965. The members of this class have distinguished them- selves outstanding in both extracurricular and scholastic activities. Of the fifty-six members in the class, twenty -five are in vocal music, twenty-four in instrumental music, and twenty-three in some form of athletics. Their junior play, Headin'for a Weddin', and senior play, Little Dog Laughednproved great successes. They also produced a memorable junior-senior banquet and prom, Enchanted Isle. The class colors are blue and silver and the class flower is the red rose. Their motto, Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall, exemplifies this class' spirit. The class sponsors are Miss Banning and Mr. Stamps. The National Honor Society looks upon education as a total product, measured by the four dimensions of life. The object of all chapters is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stim- ulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of the secondary schools of the nation. Election into the society honors the attainments already made and recognizes the promises they contain of continued excellence in the cherished ideals of the school. Officers Bill Tuttle, Vice-President Barbara Vruble, Treasurer Peggy Doggett, Secretary Roger Moore, President 36 4 if Student Council Seated: Bob Monteith, Dick Snook, President, Peggy Doggett. Standing: Peggy Dustin, Gary Noland Susan Parks, Wayne Sell, Linda Cochran, Stan Bostwick, Mr. Stamps, Sponsor. The Student Council is one of the most important organizations in high school because it represents the entire student body in matters concerning student govern- ment and high school activities, The Council consists of a boy and girl elected from each class and a president elected by the student body, under the supervision of sponsor, Maurice Stamps. The Council has worked hard this year to sponsor school parties and dances and boost school spirit through pep meetings and assemblies. Some of the activities sponsored by the Council have been the Freshman Mixer, Homecoming Dance, Halloween Hop, and Christmas Dance. The Council was also responsible for making ballots and organizing proper procedures for the student body's selection of Homecoming Queen candidates and cheer- leaders., In the fall the two senior representatives, President Dick Snook, and sponsor Maurice Stamps attended the State Student Council Convention in Ames to learn of their duties and how to carry them out. With Bill Wells placing first in the haljI' and second in the mile run along with a second place by the Medley Relay Team the Warriors came home with the runner-up trophy. The next meet was an encounter between Seymour and ACL which was dominated by the Warriors. Later in the sea- son the thinclads journeyed to Chariton for the Charger Relays where they placed fourth among many Class A Schools by winning three relays, the mile and the half. The Conference Meet at Lamoni saw the Warriors rack up a total of 95 points for first place. In doing so, four records were broken and one was tied. A second meeting between Seymour and English Valleys, the State Indoor Champs, took place at the District Meet. This time however, Seymour won and the rivals occupied the runner-up position. By winningfive events at the District the boys qualified to run in these events at the State Meet in Des Moines. And run they did, winning two relays, the half, and placing second in the mile and third in the two-twenty for a total of 29 points and first place, again beating English Valleys. The State Meet is usually the climax of the track season. But the Warriors came back for the Carlisle Relays, there they won four out offive relay trophies as well as the meet trophy, finishing the season with a total of eighteen trophies and a plaque. The War- riors under the leadership of Coaches Hanna and Chesley compiled the best record ever for a Sey- mour track team. First row: M. Phillips, K. McElvain, R. Stafford, C. Sager, B. Anderson, D.
