The class chose orchid and silver as the class colors, yellow rose as the class flower, and The past forever gone: the future yet to come, as the class motto. The class gift to the school was the intercommunication system installed in all classrooms gymnasium, shop, and extended to the football stadium. Our major undertakings during our Junior year were the play, Hold Everything , and the Junior-Senior Banquet, Top Hat Club . During our Sophomore and Junior years, our class was successful in having its candidates elected king and queen of the annual all-school carnival. Carol Young and David Erickson re- presented us as Sophomores and Rowena Rash and Reno Sebben as Juniors. As Seniors many more important activities and decisions were. a part of our class projects ln addition to choosing our class colors. motto, flower, and gift, careful consideration and considerable thought were given in choosing our commencement speaker and planning our class trip. The Senior play, Night of January l6th , and the publication of the 1954 Tomahawk were two of our greatest accomplishments. auf' ka Iunior Class CLASS OFFICERS Vice-President, .. .,. THIRD ROW: Eleanor Rupalo, Joy Liggett, Earl Berge, Coach, Margaret Shubat, Carol Young, The Seymour Warriorettes entered the state tournament with twenty-six victories and no defeats, ln the twenty-six games leading to the state tournament the Warriorettes scored a total of 1800 points, an offensive average of 69.233 and have held all opponents to 841 points, a defensive average of 32.34. This record is a record for the Seymour School and one of the best records in the state. ln winning the district tournament, the 1953-'54 squad was the fourteenth aggregation to enter the state tournament, which is also a state record. During the 1953-'54 season the Warriorettes played teams representing the southern half of the state, defeating Tingley and West Des Moines CValleyj handily. Both were in the state tournament finals. Another strong team defeated was Richland, a team that was eked out of the state tour- nament finals in district final play by one point. The strong Seymour defensive court consisting of mainstays Shirley McAne1ly, Margaret Shubat, LaVada Head, and Ilene Gill, fall Seniorsj have an enviable record both for the current season as well as the past three years. The Seniors comprising the forward court include two outstanding front players in Rowena Rash and Carol Young together with the pivot, Joy Liggett, Others comprising the traveling aggregation and outstanding players include Phyllis Vruble, Karen Erickson and Eleanor Rupalo in the front court and Marilyn Lewis and Wanda Cadwell in the back court. In the past four years, including tournament play, during which most of the Seniors were on the basketball squad or team, Seymour has won 97 games and lost 5. Two of the defeats were in the state tournament competition to teams that won the state crown and the runner-up crown respectively, In winning the Wayne County Tournament Seymour stretched the consecutive wins for that tournament to sixteen, and twenty wins in the past twenty-one years. This year marks the sixteenth sectional tournament win and the twelfth district tournament championship. Seymour, referred to as the citadel of girls'basketball in the state of Iowa has continued to add records in many departments including the 58 game consecutive winning streak during the 1946-'47 and 1947-'48 season. In addition to the other records Joy Liggett, one of Seymour's outstanding forwards in all time, gathered a total of 2665 points during her four years of com- petition and in 90 games, ranking third in the state for number of points scored by any one in- dividual during high school competition, This also marks a new all school record for a Seymour forward. Liggett shares this credit with the out forwards for their deceptive passes and with the strong defensive court. lN..any of the girls on the 1953-'54 squad have received recognition in the All-State polls, in addition to the fact they have played in the state tournament the past three years. Since basketball was started in Seymour in 1933, the V-'arriorettes have garnered a total of 513 wins against 56 defeats and 3 ties for another all state record on a competitive basis. o3 Allerton 57 Hunieston blzfi l'l0l'NAl, bl 'lamlirizi 63 Allerton 59 Chrden Cvrov l7lSTRlC'l 74 Lelioy 6-1 li rldyville Worriorettes 1953 54 V-'e LPS I Donaldson 69 imc innati 61 Moulton Ps-4 Lint-ville 65 Leon P6 Lenox 55 Allerton 71 G ,rden Grove bl Ritililand 65 ljorydon b0 Moulton 102 Leon 92 Corydon 7.5 Centerville 67 Allerton 44 Humeston H9 'l iriglcy 64 Centerville 58 Valley 'ill' e 4, LY? 1' W W 'I l fl fr 'f 'u r 9. x!l 2XSu AMW x 'Il 1 in 'C v E 9 , QU 'ft' -ll 1QfIq',fy ,, 1 ' an nth HM Q 1 Q f3l'bQ. ,aa UE , , 1 A mam Q I 1 ,f ii J gh is S? 9' I Jx Sectional Tournament Winners gf -'N' H19 tg Dzstrzct Tournament Wznners Thms Page Sponsored By PIE S RUSCO NIINDOVN CO Centervllle Iowa AUTOGRAPHS L4nhe.qu,h.a A hmm-1 by IALBIORTI BIlO'1'NER.s lug-an-4, In .
