The First Class Passengers Armen Armitage, Carol Jens, Eugene Hebel, and Mary Lou Fischer. FIRST CLASS PASSENGERS Walls were bulging and records were broken when the one hundred and forty-two freshmen entered S. H. S. on September 6, 1949. The aroma of burlap bags and the clicking of high heels filled the halls on that dreaded initiation day. All was forgiven, however, when our homecoming float, We got the bears up a tree won first prize. Lois Verbeten and Ken Braun were freshman representatives in the homecoming court. Our class officers were: Glen Rohm, president, Kenneth Braun, vice-president, JoAnn Van Straten, secretary, and Nancy Cook, treasurer. Back as sophomores we enioyed seeing the freshmen bowing down to us, and carrying our books. We hope they had fun with their suitcases that day. The honor was ours when Carol Kimps was chosen by Eugene Kropp to be his date for the homecoming court. Our candidates were Russell Parker and Noreen Gilbert. Officers for that year were: President Tom Welhouse, Vice-President Bob Weishoff, Secretary David Consoer, and Treasurer Ken Braun. Our Junior Prom was the highlight of the 1951-1952 trip at S. H. S. We danced in dreamland to the music of Sonny Mason and his orchestra. The theme, Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland was carried out by decorating the gym with our favorite dreams. King Harold Grady and Queen Beverly Riehl led the grand march. JoAnn Van Straten was general chairman of the prom and class presi- dent. James Wolff followed her lead as vice-president, Audrey Fischer as secretary, and Joyce Kropp as treasurer. As seniors we near the end of our high school career. Harold Lange and Audrey Fischer filled the royalty position for the 1952 homecoming. Though, there are now one hundred and two in our class, we find them in all activities. Jim Wolff, our prom artist, led Student Council and edited the Blue Jay. Marilyn Schreiber and Ruth Reinke were chosen as co - editors of the Ripper. JoAnn Van Straten, Jean Eick and Joyce Kropp led the cheering section. Bernice Leisgang is president of the F. H. A. Nancy Cook, Jean Martin, Loretta Malueg, and Lynette Veitch are active in Dramatics. Joan Daniels is student director of the band. We have many participants in sports. They are: Larry Wirth, Harold Lange, Bob Weishoff, Ken Braun, Bob Coonen, Jim Tubbs, Stewart Droeger, Glen Rohm, Don Malueg, Tom Welhouse, LeRoy Blohm, Darrel Doersch, Earl Euclide, Harold Grady, Eugene Hebel, Jack Melotte, Don Swiecichowski, and Dave Wussow. Guiding our class through its final year are: Armen Armitage, president, Eugene Hebel, vice-president, Carol Jens, secretary, and Mary Lou Fischer, treasurer. Our senior advisors are Miss Haderlein, Miss Wormwood, Mr. Patchett, Mr. Weaver and Mr. Koepke. Now, as we look back at the fun, the classes and the anxiety of these four years, we find it is with sad hearts we say good-bye to Seymour High and thank you for all it has given us. Page Ten
