119 THE PANTHER 37 - HISTORICAL PERIOD OF THE SENIORS OF '37 In the fall of '33 about ninety Freshmen entered Seymour High School. We were looked on as 'green', but since then we DZVS built a good record for ourselves. With A. E. Richmond as president, and Mrs. Kemp as sponsor, we had a very successful freshman year. The next September we were called back to continue our school work. This time we were not called 'green', but were known as 'those wise ones' or Sophomores. With Wayland Gilliam as president and Mr. Sandlin as sponsor, we BBQ an unusually good year. As Sophs. distinction of Gilliam, Ao E0 Before we soon organized and Miss Shipp we won the groundball intermural and had the having three letter men in our class, Wayland Richmond, and Alton Lewis. realized it, the summer vacation was over. We the Junior Class with Wayne Cure as president as sponsor. This year 1935-36 was a most enjoyable one despite much hard work. The most striking accomplishment of this year is best seen in the fact that seven of our Juniors lettered. These were: A. E. Richmond, Arthur Lee Harris, Alvin Westerman, Lemuel Balch, Ray Lynn Cure, Bruce Gilbert, and Wayne Cure. We were also accredited with having four Juniors on the basketball team-Sam Mc Daniel, Roger Franklin, Wayne Cure, and Alvin Westerman. We helped presenting the the Seniors of '36 put over their annual by play, 'Small Town Romeo.' Now as Seniors of '37, we are continufhg with a better record than ever before. With Roger Franklin as president and Mrs. Baker as sponsor, we are enjoying a wonderful year. This annual, our pet project, will, we are sure, ever keep fresh in our memory this, the happiest year of our school OBTBBI' o In athletics the Seniors have made a very excellent showing with two of the football captains, A. E. Richmond and Arthur Lee Harris and four other letter men, Roger Franklin, Foster Cox, Rex Adkins, and Sam Mc Daniel as mem- bers of our class. It nas been our good fortune to be the first senior class to use our new library, study hall, and gymnasium.
