Baker '5uPermte'nden'C Principal For eighteen years our sup, rintendent, Mr. Kemp, and our principal, Mrs. Baker, have worked faithfully for the upbuilding of Seymour High School. Improve- ment has been steady and constant. Our present enroll- ment is 340, The report of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, to which we belong, shows the high quality of work done by our school. Our graduates have a record for above the average made by college freshmen. Our school plant is valued at approximately ,g1o9,ooo. In 1922 the original high school building, built in 1917 was completed and the Home Economics Cottage was built. In 1928 six class rooms were added. what we of the class of 1937 most appreciate is the recently completed new study hall, library room, lockers and gymnasium. No school has a more capable or loyal superintendent than Seymour High School. M . Kemp's major concern is keeping our school as good as the best. Mrs. Baker's understanding and high ideals continue to add character to our school. She can always be depended on when we are in need of help. we are proud of S. H. S. C fri in 119 THE PANTHER 37 - HISTORICAL PERIOD OF THE SENIORS OF '37 In the fall of '33 about ninety Freshmen entered Seymour High School. We were looked on as 'green', but since then we DZVS built a good record for ourselves. With A. E. Richmond as president, and Mrs. Kemp as sponsor, we had a very successful freshman year. The next September we were called back to continue our school work. This time we were not called 'green', but were known as 'those wise ones' or Sophomores. With Wayland Gilliam as president and Mr. Sandlin as sponsor, we BBQ an unusually good year. As Sophs. distinction of Gilliam, Ao E0 Before we soon organized and Miss Shipp we won the groundball intermural and had the having three letter men in our class, Wayland Richmond, and Alton Lewis. realized it, the summer vacation was over. We the Junior Class with Wayne Cure as president as sponsor. This year 1935-36 was a most enjoyable one despite much hard work. The most striking accomplishment of this year is best seen in the fact that seven of our Juniors lettered. These were: A. E. Richmond, Arthur Lee Harris, Alvin Westerman, Lemuel Balch, Ray Lynn Cure, Bruce Gilbert, and Wayne Cure. We were also accredited with having four Juniors on the basketball team-Sam Mc Daniel, Roger Franklin, Wayne Cure, and Alvin Westerman. We helped presenting the the Seniors of '36 put over their annual by play, 'Small Town Romeo.' Now as Seniors of '37, we are continufhg with a better record than ever before. With Roger Franklin as president and Mrs. Baker as sponsor, we are enjoying a wonderful year. This annual, our pet project, will, we are sure, ever keep fresh in our memory this, the happiest year of our school OBTBBI' o In athletics the Seniors have made a very excellent showing with two of the football captains, A. E. Richmond and Arthur Lee Harris and four other letter men, Roger Franklin, Foster Cox, Rex Adkins, and Sam Mc Daniel as mem- bers of our class. It nas been our good fortune to be the first senior class to use our new library, study hall, and gymnasium. .1 i Mrs. Baker Roger E'a11kI'11 SPOT, gov presadenf A LADY, A STUDENT, AND A LEADER l'LL FURNISH THE FORD-YOU VHDH VIE WOULD ALL D0 WELL TO FUHNISH THE GIRLQN FOLLOW. The Panthers were off to a good start by winning from Archer City 20-19 in a five minute extra period game. The 'Cagers' played sixteen games winning ten and losing six. Two tournaments were entered, Seymour winning sec- ond in the Knox City tournament and was defeated in the semi-finals of the consolation in the tournament at, Munday. The whole squad worked together in one unit and all helped to make the season the most successful one Seymour has had in a long time. By losing only three men out of the first ten a more successful season is ex- pected next year. With the opening of school in the fall of 1937, Seymour will have the use of her new gymnasium which ' will enable her to develop better all around students.
