Mrs. Betty Andrews,2nd Vice not pictured. district. Ida williams Pres. P.T.A. 1927-1928 5 still active The Seymour Parent Teachers Association was organized in 1912 so it is now forty years old. It was the first P.T.A. in Webster County. Mrs. Stella Trimble was the first president followed by Mrs Forrest Rhodes the second year Its work through the years has contributed greatly to the development of the Seymour Public Schools One of the first COHtIlbUtlOHB was the CBt8D1l8hmCHt of a Home Economxcs Department In spite of considerable opposition from those who felt that grrls could learn to cook at home, the P T N raised S300 for the purchase of drshes, silver, six coal oil stoves and other equipment to start that work The P T A also urged and promoted the introduction of music instruction in the school It secured the servrces first of a local musician, Mrs Paul mcnahan, who taught one year without pay Then a part time mislc teacner was employed as a mem ber of the faculty Finally in 1936 a full tine music teacher was employed Then the P T A made plans to raise money for band uniforms and cho1r robes Money was raised and contributed by the P T A for the purchase of playground e qulpment, swlrgs and a merry go round Milk was bought and served to the under nourshed chrldren in the elementary school The organization sponsored for a time a pre school unit tnat graduated 1nto a motlers' study club It nought drshrs and a coffee urn to oe used for servmng meals and refreshments at the school The local P T A ootained Honey from the State P T A scholarship loan fund to help f1ve Sey mour girls attend college In 1937 the Seymour P T A became affil1ated with the Vational Congress of Parents and Teachers Later that year it helped organize the Webster County P T A Council and Mrs S R lclahan of Seymour became the f1rst president of the council Mrs Mchahan later served two years as dlBtTlCt president with six counties included in the distr1ct at that time Seymour P T A has contributed both moral and frnancial suooort to the County Health Council in its employment of a county nurse It has always supported the Red Cross, lung examination and similar worthy campaigns in the school and the community The P T A Committees for l9al o2 are Membership Mrs Claddis Nichole, Chairman Mrs Harry Jennings and mrs Willard Davis Program-hrs Fred Vollehweider, Chair man, Mrs L R Pfost, Miss Lillian Xewourg, Mrs Ray Smith, and Mrs merle Cox Publiclty hiss Dorothy DeArmond Chalrman Hosprtality Chairman at var1ous times rs Bill Turner, mrs W A willrams, rs wmllard Davrs, rs narry Jennings Budget and Finance Mr Leon Yeakey, Charrman, hr John drown Het Too ev owadley v oeymo r's xrlsterlal Allla L s or a lZ d rrstlan Japtl t Assexol o ,ou ' vrtr n v sol, past r o tne het 3ClSt C urc a 1 s frrst c arr v J star of re Chrlstlan Church is chairman for the year 1 l 52 These m1n rsters have charge of the cnaoel servlces once a month in the school gymnaslum Se arate ser v1ces are COHdUC'CQ for the h1J and t e grades v Pilirn on, On to or the StHOQlSn Church 9 ictu . . . 6 . 0 s. 0 I I . . . . . .
