Lef! to right: Mr. liosa, Mr. Ehersole, Mr. Smith, Mr. Anas, Mrs. Nussdorfer, Mrs. Darling, Mr. llerrmann BOARD OF EDUCATION The Board of Education is composed of seven members, who serve without pay for six years on a time consuming job. Besides their extra committee meetings, they meet on the second Monday and fourth Thursday of each month to discuss and make decisions concerning problems which are continually arising in the Lansing school system. During the past year the Board organized a junior Board of Education. This board, which is composed of members of the student bodies of the various high schools, has become known nationally. Today many cities are trying out this form of student representation. 13 Affecting Sexton more closely was the increased driver education program that included a new instructor, a black-topped training area, and several more cars. Arrangements have also been made to provide Sextonis track with lights. Due to the actions of the board, five members of Sextonis faculty found themselves in new posi- tions. Mr. Forest McCaskey became the assistant principal at C. W. Otto Junior High School. Mr. Lewis Clark is now in charge of safety for the Lansing schools. Mr. John Marrs became head of Public Relations while Mr. S. Earle Trudgen took charge of the Music Department for the city's public schools. Congratulations also to Mr. F. C. Shaft, our new assistant principal.

They are also available to students who are having dirliculties. WVhether the problem concerns health, grades, finding a part-time job, getting along with parents, teachers, and other students, or taking part in school or outside activities, the counselors are willing to help Whenever possible. Upon entering Sexton, every sophomore has a personal conference with his counselor, who E121 helps him adjust his schedule in preparation for college or a future vocation. lt is also the coun- seloris responsibility to check the credits of each pupil and to arrange for him to make up those in which he is deficient. Director ot the counseling program is Miss l.aWry. Under her are Mr. Schulert, who directs his attention to the industrial students, Mr. Bur- gett, to the commercial, and Mrs. Stutzman, Miss Fee and Mr. Kowalk, to those in general education.
